I have had asthma all my life.
Well, perhaps not, but it has always been very difficult for me to run. I would NOT get tired, but I could not breath at all! Not to mention my fear to have a heart attack.

Last summer I started walking 1 mile every night.
The next month I started running that same distance. Another month later I started running 2 miles.

Currently I am running 3 miles every night. I am not very fast, I spend 25-30 minutes, but what the hell!!, I am at least doing something.

I really feel happy about this.
Before I could not run at all and now I am actually doing something that I really enjoy :)

I don't know what should be my next goal, perhaps running 4 miles every night or perhaps trying to run a little bit faster...

How about you guys?
Anyone been in a similar situation?

I think I'm gonna crawl if I run for more than a mile. Anyway for asthma have you ever try swallowing salamander. I think that's what the Chinese did when they have Asthma. Might work for you.

Don't know how many miles it was, but in the Army they ran our asses off. :Q

And I ran long distance in high school.

BoberFettWhere are you stationed?
I'm aldo in the ARMY, and before joining I could even run 1/4 of a mile.
Now sometimes i can run up to 6 miles , that's if i don't drink the night before.
Lucky for me, today is my last day. :)

Normally I run 3 miles a day, which takes about 35 minutes for me.

However, I have been off schedule for almost 2 weeks now....

I have to warn you guys, running is what keeps me balanced!

Mood swings ahead. ;)

As many as necessary when being chased by a pack of dogs.

Seriously, I respect those who run so much. I tend to walk and hop on the stationary bike.

Congrats on the progress!!

Maybe try running farther, but less times per week. Or have some days per week where you do many shorter sprints instead of one long run.

The only time I ever run is when we have to do it in Gym at school. I do the mile in about 6min or so but that's the only time I actually run. I am out for sports and that's the only way I stay in shape.

I can run 3 miles without any problems. I could probably go farther with a jogging buddy or an little MP3 player. But for now, I'm unentertained and I usually stop at three miles.

Did anyone else catch Alan Alda on PBS last night? They had a program about medical advances in brain research. It seems that mice that run can solve problems much more quickly than those that don't run. This research suggests to me that if the majority of members of this board ran more they could reach all the wrong results much more quickly. :p

I didn't run today. I have a race tomorrow.

Congrats on your progress! it must be really rewarding.

Try running on a new route, run the same distance but try doing some uphill work. Just a suggestion.

Since dropping my ROTC scholarship I have become quite lazy. But for my last PFT (I only did 4) I ran 3 miles in 17:56. I've never tried to see how far I can run. I did 7 or 8 just for the fun of it and it was no big deal. I'm thinking about training for a marathon next year. Just to do it. But I'll have to be diligent, and that's one of my biggest struggles.

I commend you Duckers. Starting from zero is hard to do and hard to stay with it but it appears you have. Congrats.

I'm lazy and I don't play sports except for snowboarding and skating if you consider those sports and that isn't much aerobic activity.

Give me 15 minutes and I could go a little over 1 1/2 miles prob. :)

I've been told that this is because Running(along with other strenuous activites) increase the bodies ability to get oxygen to the brain.

BTW - I'm out of shape and injured, but my freshman year in College I was running around 30 minute 5 mile races, and under 6:45 pace 20k's.

Best mile was around 5:06, best 8 mile run was around 55 minutes.
