Just a quick question, how is portability/weight/convenience of having a 17" or higher screen? Reason being is that I want to get an Alienware laptop this summer for college, and dunno if I'll be taking it anywhere.
Also, do you need a laptop bag to hold batteries and stuff?

1. Do not get Alienware
2. Do not get Alienware
3. Do not get Alienware

As to 17, I just put my Killernotebook Odachi (with a C2Q 6700) in my Kensington Contour Overnight case and drag it around.

What's wrong with an Alienware laptop? Price seems to match competitors, sometimes even less? Is it the quality?

google Alienware Horror Story. It's not like they make their hardware either, it's the same third party (Clevo and the like) as everyone else, they just have a nicer shell.

What about Dell? I want a laptop that will play games. Decent/Good graphics.

I think some XPS are also based on Clevo. Budget?

the alienware is much heavier than the inspiron series. i just got a $4500 LOADED m series for a customer that wanted to soak up a bit of budget money (total waste of cash) and that sucker was hefty. and i would recommend a case for any laptop, along with enough pockets to carry the crap you want to carry. i dont carry a spare battery. mine is almost 3 years old and i can still watch a full movie or play world of warcraft for a couple hours before needing to plug in.

Max: $1900-2000.

15", 1600x1200.

It's a Sager 5860, pushing five years old now. It's still rare to find laptops with that kind of pixel density. It was a lot of money when I bought it, but there is something to be said for investing money upfront to avoid instant obsolescence. With a desktop P4 3.2 HT and 1 GB of RAM under the hood, it still has plenty of processing power, too. I think I can squeeze another couple of years out of it if nothing fries.

Mines 14.1, seems like a great size/weight comparison for me. The main quality I look for in a laptop is portability, being a previous owner of a dell inspiron 8000 weighing in at ~7 pounds.
