a laptop is meant to be portable, I have had a 17", 15.4", 12.1", 13.3"....

13.3 and 12.1 were PERFECT. anything bigger is just dumb.

I want to grab one of those 7" EEE's next.

15.4"

probably going to buy a 17-19" at some point this summer, once my CC is paid off and I finish furnishing my apartment.

12.1" widescreen sorny, weighs 3.2 pounds and the battery lasts over 5 hours if need be. Has a pretty nice video card that let me play oblivion. I wouldn't want anything much larger although I do like my friends asus A8JP.

My personal laptop has a 15.4" 1280x800 Widescreen. Nice for DVD's, but the laptop itself is too wide and heavy!

My work laptop has a 12.1" 1024x768 screen. That's too small for me.

My old work laptop from another job had a 14.1" 1400x1050 screen. That one seems like the ideal size, although you need to kick up the font size to make it readable.

I had a Dell E1405 (14.1") but it was a bit large and clunkly. Got myself a 13.3" M1330 and I'm very happy.

Thinkpad T40

14.1" @ 1024x768

its pretty portable, i wouldnt ever want to tote around anything larger on even a semi-regular basis.

im seriously considering the 9" Eee pc, if it has a diamondville cpu and is under $500 when it comes out...ill sell my thinkpad and just get the Eee and a 17" LCD to go with it at home. my server keeps up with all my data anyway.

wish i had one....

but my desktop is dual 19" 4:3's... so 38 across total.... once you go dual you never go back...

EeePC FTW!!!

The eee would be good if it had a properly sized screen. That giant bezel makes it look like a 5-year-old's toy.

Check the new 9" EeePCs coming out soon. Much better.

Just a quick question, how is portability/weight/convenience of having a 17" or higher screen? Reason being is that I want to get an Alienware laptop this summer for college, and dunno if I'll be taking it anywhere.
Also, do you need a laptop bag to hold batteries and stuff?

1. Do not get Alienware
2. Do not get Alienware
3. Do not get Alienware

As to 17, I just put my Killernotebook Odachi (with a C2Q 6700) in my Kensington Contour Overnight case and drag it around.

What's wrong with an Alienware laptop? Price seems to match competitors, sometimes even less? Is it the quality?
