you can't comprehend Reading Hell until you have to read (and understand) War and Peace in 2 weeks.

that book consumed my life for those two weeks... and my wrists still hurt from having to support the weight ;)

So you have to read 50 pages per night for 18 weeks?

That sucks.

mmmm that might be too extreme. I think its around 150 pages a week in terms of the amount of reading for all of my classes combined per WEEK. 50 pages a day would be too much.

I agree. You aren't really going to inspire your students or instill upon them a love of the subject that way.

1-2 hours is usually enough for me. i don't usually need to "study" beyond doing the reading or assignments.

20 a week when you average it out over the entire semester.

In other words, all of it is crammed in a few days before exams.

Yes. :D At which point, you didn't do the homework, the homework did you :)

1-2 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. Thats just regular homework.

Animation Production is a different story. 20-40 hours a week come mid quarter, up to 50 towards the last two weeks. It's like a job. that i pay to go to. :(

Not all that much. The thing is you have to work smart. Look at the questions right when you get them, then do them immediately after you see a similar solution floating around somewhere.

Many, many, many hours. I've cut back on my extra curriculars, withdrawn into my room...

It's sad. :( To top it all off, I'm a senior.

You guys suck at college :)
Treat it like an 8 to 5 job... I *know* you're not in class 5 days a week from 8 to 5..
Don't watch Oprah during your hour off in the morning...
1/2 hour for lunch
Rest of the time not in class: do school work.

You won't have to lift a book on the weekends or at night.

I'm a giant procrastinator, so it varies night by night. Sunday, I'll probably put in 2-3 hours doing hw due Monday morning. I have nothing due on Tues, so unless I have a test that morning, I just chill. Tuesday night (ie, right after I finish writing this), I'll probably do 3-4 hours of work. Usually I get started earlier, but I fell asleep this afternoon at 3, woke up at 8, and then had a two hour long dorm league football practice. I went out at 10:30 to grab dinner, and now I'll finally get around to doing homework. I've got a physics lab due on Thurs, so I'll be doing a couple of hours of work tomorrow. Thursday is the big night of work as I'll probably do 6 hrs+ of math homework, compressing a whole week's worth of work into one long night. Average it out, and I probably spend 2-3 hours a night. Of course, there's always things that pop up, for example I spent 4-5 hours on Sunday writing a paper in addition to my regular Monday homework.

Aerospace Engineering major, sophomore year, btw.

I have a full time job as well. Plus 2.5 hours of commuting.

The general rule of thumb is that you should spend twice the amount of time outside of class on homework as you do in class on a weekly basis. So, a 3 hour course would require 6 hours of outside work, whether it be reading or doing assignments.

...which is complete BS, most people don't spend nearly that amount of time.

It really depends. If you have a big project in upper-level engineering, say, you might well spend 6-8 hours a night working on it in your group. Multiply that by a couple weeks, and it's a bunch. But most of the time you won't spend more than a few hours a week.
