How many hours of sleep a day does it require for you to function properly/normally?

I prefer to get 7 hours. Any more than 7 hours, and I wake up with a headache and a stiff neck.

At the very least, I try to get 5 hours. I usually function pretty well on 5 hours of sleep.

6-8 for me. recently I played too much fallout tactics and only got 3 hours of sleep before waking up and driving a car 30 min to a dealership. A few hours later when I went to campus, slept 2 hours in the van to catch up.

Honestly, I prefer doing physical work all day like mucking stables, then sleeping 10 hours of dead sleep.

If I could do that I'd probably live 'til 100... as it is I get avg six hours a night and often have trouble sleeping 🙁

6. if I get any less than 6 hours I will have a headache all day and just all around feel lousy.

Getting a headache is something that I don't want to have during the day, so getting plenty of sleep for me counts.

i operate on 6 a day everyday. i can still work well on 5, but not for a long period of time. if im in a bind i can go with 4 hours, but ill be yawning and stuff. i cant sleep more than 8 hours, and if i do sleep for 8 hours im so jittery i cant really commit to tasks very well. not sure why, family always told me i was just a hyper person. they also said it would subside as i got older, and at 37 it hasnt really changed much. i dont get sick very often at all either, which a lot of people told me i would be sick often with my sleep habits.

Short term: 2
Long term: 7~8

I got 5 hours night before last and 2 hours last night, and managed to get by today, although I felt like falling asleep a couple of times.

About 10. Manage with 7-8 with work/school, but anything less than 10 and waking up before 1pm in the afternoon, I'll be drowzy and a walking bag of meat for the first few hours.

About 7 to 8, although I can go as low as 5 for a while. When I sleep in during the weekends, I get about 9.

I definately prefer 8 hours of solid sleep. The problem is waking up for one reason or another upsetting the sleep cycle. I believe people that sleep less and handle it better is likely as much a health issue as it is a genetics issue. What I mean by a health issue is that they sleep soundly in a deep sleep with very few interruptions for reason like snoring, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrom RLS, insomnia, deviated septum, nocturia etc.

I'm not really sure what my body needs. I'm tired all the time regardless of how many hours I sleep. I feel the same with 9 hours or 5 hours, just tired.

Yea, my friend is a deep sleeper and he does fine with only a few hours. I am a light sleeper and I hate it. I can sleep deeply only if I am really tired or after drinking.

I usually get around 5-7 every night during the week and take naps inbetween classes. 8 hours is ideal for me though.

Need 7-8 to feel "good"

Usually end up with about 6 hrs/night -- not so great.

Can drag my carcass around on an average of 3-4 hrs/night over the course of a working week, but doing it that way I have no prayer of being able to think on my feet.
