How many have had a close friend/family member murdered?

Mods if this is too morbid, I will understand a lock.

The anti-death penalty thread made me think of this. Two of my grandparents were murdered. They were coin collectors and were making coin trades while on vacation. They met someone through a magazine ad and met with him. They were never seen again and their pickup was covered with blood. He stole their coins and their credit cards. He went on a shopping spree. Shortly later their credit cards were traced to a man in prison who was being charged to murder in another state. Under state laws he couldn't be questioned by out of state police - so no one could ask him about my grandparents (although their coins were found at his house). He committed suicide while in prison so none of our questions were ever answered.

So do you have any tragic stories.

My cousin killed himself. A friend of a friend I know did the same. I met him. He was a student at Cal Tech (as was my friend) back in the 1960's and he had some peculiar ideas about how machines could do anything that people could. I contested his views and the next thing I heard about him was that he had killed himself. To my knowledge and recollection, nobody I know has ever been murdered (except by themselves).

One of my friend's dad got murdered while at his shop. It was all over the Korean News in Seattle/Portland area.

one of my best friends from my childhood got shot a few years back. Him and some friends were breaking into cars and such, and one of those cars happened to be a police officers. Well my friend found a gun in the guys car, was looking at it, the police officer came outside, saw him holding a gun, and shot him.

A friend of mine was murdered by her own renegade immune system. Probably not whatyou had in mind, but tragic nonetheless.

Five so far.

1. Young kid I knew, his parents died long ago so he was an orphan living with his uncle who was my cousin's husband. I played with him when he was younger. As he hit his teens, he got into gangs and ran away, got into trouble, etc etc. One night, a friend of his called the friends woman and told her to go pick them up. He said if she couldn't find them at that location, the're most likely dead. Being chased or something. Next morning they were found on the railroad track, in parts. This was in Fresno, back in 92 or 93.

2. A few years ago my little brother was killed. Gang related too. He went to a public party, the people didn't let him in because they said he might cause trouble. He left, and on his way to the car, drive by occurred. he was shot and killed. North Carolina, '98.

3. My Aunt and and cousin was stabbed to death by the cousin's estranged boyfriend. Uncle fought him off till the cops got there and saved the rest of the family from the same fate. The cops shot the guy. Two years ago, also Fresno.

4. A distant uncle was just shot and killed in Stockton a couple of weeks ago during a robbery. Two maskmen shot him and took his bag of money that he was going to use to stock his cash register. There's still a reward for the killers info.

Crazy but true, all of it. You can check the papers, the stories should be in the archives.

I was born in Fresno and my grandparents who were murdered lived in Stockton.

My Grandmothers' brother had moved from Illinois to Miami back in the 40's to find work and ended up working at a gas station... killed with one shot during a robbery one evening just after closing. My Gma kept that news article until she died. The person who was the trigger man got 40 years for it, he died in prison in the 60's.

That's why I LOVE living where I do.

If you answered YES, you might concider MOVING!
Any area in the world of significant size has had a murder. if you don't watch it yours will be next 😉

I'm amazed at all these stories of murder. "Americans is a bloodthirsty people." - read on the cover of a blues LP from some years back.

I was murdered once, but I got better.
You're supposed to say: "I was murdered!"

And then finish it off only when somebody questions you about it. 😉
