How Many GPU?

  • Single GPU - Low/iGPU (i65xx/iHD4000/HD3670/9500GT)

  • Single GPU - Midrange (5850/6870/7790/470/560/650ti)

  • Single GPU - Hi End (7950/7970/670/680/770)

  • Single GPU - Ultra Hi End (780/Titan)

  • 2 Multi-GPU - Midrange

  • 2 Multi-GPU - Hi End

  • 2 Multi-GPU - Ultra Hi End

  • 3 Multi-GPU - Hi End

  • 3 Multi-GPU - Ultra Hi End

  • 4 Multi-GPU - Hi End / Ultra Hi End

Apparently people are giving their own interpretation as to what ultra high end is.

This poll is going places.

have to compare single gpu to single gpu to get proper hierarchy before applying multi gpu. which leaves 780/titan in a league of its own - hence ultra hi end.

I have another question which is fairly relevant to the thread. What resolution do people use their cards for?

excellent extented question regarding this thread, however it does not directly apply to this thread. this thread is simply about how many gpu is currently in use now/today in a single machine.

do feel free to start a new thread. would be nice to know what resoultion folks are running vs how many gpu. one thing for sure. for now a single 680 is more than enough for any game maxed out (except crysis3) at 1920x1080p.

I voted 4 way hi end, HD6970 was a high end GPU in its day.....

that is the closest available match. ran out of poll option for older multi gpu.

Basing the poll solely on x1080 throws the results into a predetermined low-mid range setup. If you're running 2x-4x "high-end" cards for x1080, you should probably turn in your pocket protector, because you're no longer worthy; and I think most people know this.

I guess my tertiary rig's 5850s are on the lower end of midrange while my 570s would be on the upper end of midrange, so I fit them both on the midrange multi gpu selection.

Next year will be a sad year. I will probably have to give them away. No more space for a forth rig, lol.

Ya, that is very subjective. Based on that criteria, I have two low end GPU's with 680's.

if you are running i.e. triple 2560x1440 (11MP) then yes two 680 will be fair for that resolution. if you are running 120hz as well then two 680 will be way low for that resolution n refresh.

to keep all gpu on the same playing field. a resolution has to be choosen.

some are still running below 1920x1080. few are running above 1920x1080. however majority of users' are running 1920x1080p. that is what the choosen baseline is.

Yes, for purposes of a poll you need to limit the criteria. However, you can't have options that are completely negated by the criteria. So the poll is skewed. 😛

Sell the 5850s now before the ASIC plow demolishes their value completely.

They were such a great purchase (value, features, new DX, fab process, power, overclocking, great gaming overall - unlike the releases that came after the 5800 series, both camps included), that they have ended up holding sentimental value, which cannot get a price just by their performance standing.

So I will probably give them away to friends. Oh wait, I can still install one in the office computer.

The other factor is FPS target. I have a high FPS target. I want 80+ FPS in normal 2D and 60+ in 3D and I do have a 120hz monitor.

The reason for those high FPS is my simulator sickness kicks in at FPS lower than 80. I have to live with it in 3D, and take breaks after no more than an hour.

given that target. recommend - trisli 780/titan. 680 sli not cutting it.

My 6950 (mid card) is still playing the games just fine. Probably upgrade end of the year. Maybe try and find a nice Black Friday deal.
