I purchased a Nintendo DS yesterday and I'm currently looking to get a R4. How many GB does the R4 support? I went to their site and it says they support 4GB but my friend said that only 2GB works.

As far as I am aware, the R4 does not yet support SDHC cards - which are typically 4GB and above. There is supposed to be a firmware update, but who knows if/when it will be out. Although I've only used 2GB cards, so I cannot speak from experience.

Uhm, the R4 isn't supported by Nintendo.

OP, I believe you have to look for non-microSDHC cards, but one of the firmwares was supposed to update and allow SDHC.

You should google a little thing called "sarcasm" and "sense of humor", you might find a few interesting entries.

The current R4 can only support up to 2GB MicroSDs, end of story, current R4s won't EVER support SDHC.

My fiancees R4 (same firmware as mine) only supports a 2GB card, while mine supports my Kingston 4GB card.

Q: How many files can I have on the R4?
A: R4 Adapter supports 128MB~4GB TF(MicroSD) card , 4GB=32Gbit

I'd love to see the homebrew game that takes more than a gig of storage

Pfftt...

You clearly haven't heard of my "Super Monk Adventures" game where 1 of the 7 mini games requires you to copy a bible by hand, cover to cover, and grades you on your accuracy and speed in "Heaven bucks" when you finish.

How many Heaven Bucks can I get for a Schrute Buck? I have too many of those, and need alot more Heaven Bucks (if you know what I mean).

Highest it would support is a 4GB non-SDHC. But since those are hard to find, you are going to have to get a 2GB.

Nope, it's a rebranded Kingston.
I know there are supposedly some out there since SD goes up to 4GB, then SDHC goes from 4GB and up, but I've never seen them.
(Man that's expensive, even for Sharper Image!
I got mine for about $25 with adapters.)

I've seen some, but that was about a year ago. None left these days, plus R4 works well but still outdated technology. hopefully R5? :D

Yeah, it does everything I need it to, and then some, and 2GB is enough for most. I switched cards with my fiancee since she likes to watch shows and movies on hers and I just play games and use the slideshow. I fill it up with games and when I get new ones, take off the ones I don't play anymore.
The R4 doing anything more than ROM loading is just a bonus in my book!

Uhh, the R4 can be updated. Currently version 1.18 is out.

According to my friend, R4 is the best out there, better than M3, R6, or whatever programs out there that are similar to R4.

How come R4 doesn't support microSDHC anyways? How are they different from normal MicroSD?

I'm probably going to get the M3DS Real since it supports MicroSDHC.

Anyone know which is better? R4 or M3DS Real? Some people say R4, some say M3. I know they're almost the same, but any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Update. I'm not gonna get the R4 anymore. I'm gonna choose either a M3 Real, AceKard 2, or SuperCard DS. I'm leaning towards the AceKard or SuperCard over the M3 because the AceKard can basically do anything that the M3 does, while the SuperCard offers the same, if not more features over the CycloDS. They all support MicroSDHC.
