Three beers for a buzz usually, but 4 once had me ranting about how the Polar Express (it was on TV) is an allegory for Soviet Russia and Communism.

I have never been "buzzed" though I've tried a few times to reach that feeling. Finally 2 years ago I went on a resident retreat (last year of my medical residency) and I threw back alcohol faster than I drink water after working in the yard in summer.

I put down about 100 or so ounces or Tequila, wine, JD, and maybe a beer or 2. I don't remember what I did for 2 hours, but some of my friends said I was funny and others said I was an ass. Regardless, I'm never getting drunk again - no point if I can't remember my stupidity :p

I shall never know the feeling :(

For you to have imbibed that much alcohol, you must either be a colossus like your name says and have a hell of a metabolism to boot, or you're full of it.

100oz of tequila is roughly equal to 67 shots. You've got to be Andre the Giant to handle that crap.

I don't understand why beer hits me the fastest. I usually drink liquor though.

 great post Oldsmoboat

Great taste, Tiamat.

Hendricks is great, gin martinis are even better.

I'm still partial to Tanqueray 'Ten' though, I love that gin.

Well, I weighed about 230 back then (215 now) and am pretty muscular. Like I said I have never been buzzed in my whole life. I had some guys in my med school class who were in the army try to get me drunk at a party I threw at my place. After about 30 ounces of Vodka all I felt was a little dizzy, but I still had good reflexes and was quite bored.

I'm not sure how much I actually drank. All I know is a certain female resident (known for being a trouble maker) made me drink the tequila out of a large wine gobblet. Since I was the only one drinking the Tequila for the most part (and they had 3 of those cuervo bottles) I figure it close to 100 ounces between that, the wine and JD. Wine doesn't have too much OH content by volume so it probably dropped the OH density.

Either way, I did win the award from the GI doc for the most alcohol he's ever seen one person consume and not vomit (and he's a GI doc haha).

It's not metabolism really. Different races typically have different genes, and those people that have high expression of alcohol DH can break it down quickly in the liver. I'me sure the fact I was drinking tons of water (since we were up in the Arrowhead mountains helped prep me for the acidosis).

The only way to stop a hangover is hydration. I've never had a hangover fortunately, not even after that crazy night.

Define "feel it".

I can tell I've had alcohol after a single beer, but it takes three in fairly rapid succession to become buzzed.

No offense, but it was either not normal tequila or they were feeding you water.

67 shots of 40% tequila would give you a BAC of over 1.2%. Most people (unless they're seasoned alcoholics) will die or be comatose at around a 0.4%. At the very least, you'd be in bad shape (I'm a big guy and drank a ton of liquor in my younger days, and getting in the 0.3 range left me in a drunken stupor). Even 20% tequila (I don't even know if they make it that weak) would put you at a BAC of around 0.6%, which is lethal to most.

Even if it was 40oz of wine, you're still talking about 60oz of 40% alcohol between the JD and the tequila. That would put you at around a 0.7%. Still lethal for most that aren't alcoholics.

And genes only go so far; it's a combination of the two. Metabolism actually has a lot to do with how your body processes alcohol. A person who is 230lbs and 40% body fat is going to much more fvcked compared to a person who is 230lbs and 8% body fat. The person with a lower body fat (and I'm speaking based on the presumption they work out hardily and are in great shape) is going to metabolize alcohol at a much faster rate.

So in summary:

Three liters of diew dew or one beer, I guess. I haven't consumed alcohol in years. I know my tipping point dropped as I got older. If I drank at 25 like I did at 16 it hurt.

Doesn't take much for me to feel it, but it takes a bit for me to become smashed.

Seriously though, I start 'feeling' it about 30 seconds after I take a drink, I'm hyper-aware of the sensation and I love it, it's like this awesome wave washes over me. I love the feeling of being inebriated.
