they memorize the numbers by forming words with certain patterns. i did it for the first 800. it took me just over 2 weeks to learn that many.

in all fairness, memorizing 100k digits of pi is a skill most of us probably dont have. also, it took some serious determination and motivation to accomplish that, and there is something to be said for that as well.
