how many days a week should be spent at the gym? if I do seven days, and spend 2 or 3 just doing cardio am I doing more good or bad to my body?

As long as you aren't working out the same muscle groups everyday, you can go everyday. Though you should take a day or so off a week just to let your muscles recoop and so you don't get burned out.

More importantly, what does your routine look like? You could go everyday if you really wanted to as long as compromises are made in terms of volume. However, I wouldn't recommend training so frequently unless you already know how your body responds. Your best bet is to do 3 full body workouts a week or train 4x a week (2 lower body days, 2 lower).

How long have you been training? What are your goals?

It completely depends on what you're doing and purpose you have in doing it.

It'll be easier to answer your question with more details about what you're doing and what you want to accomplish.
