How many credits did you start college off with (because of AP classes)

I was just wondering how many AP classes you took in high school and how much credit you got for them in college (this is assuming you got a 4 or a 5 on the courses AP exam).

 
I started off with 8 credits. I took AP U.S History and AP Government, but I don't remember what score I got on the exams.

I started attending college in the 11th grade. Got my english courses, two math courses and two biology courses out of the way, while still going to HS. I would take HS classes in the morning (the required stuff) and my &quot;electives&quot; were college classes in the afternoon.
 
shmorq did you get a 4 or 5 on the exams?

How do you know which colleges accept which AP classes or just say screw it hope they accept it and if they don't it looks good anyway.

shoulda been more cause i got a 5 on the ap stat test but since it was the first year of that test the college of engineering at berkeley didnt have a policy for that test yet

The best way to find out about how a college handles AP classes is to ask them. Some colleges will give credit only for 5s, some for 4s and 5s, some for 3s, 4s, and 5s if it's not a class in your major, some not at all if the class is part of a major. It's not always an easy question to answer, but Academic Services (or the equivalent) as well as Admissions Counselors are used to finding out the answers for you.

I started college with 17 credits after earning 5s on US History, English Lit, and English Comp and a 4 on Biology. Probably unlike many colleges, I got 3 credits each for US History and the English exams, but *8* credits (2 semesters plus labs) for Biology.

Also remember that every school may handle credits differently. For instance, at Rutgers, credits are calculated by # of hours/week spent in a class each semester, while at Brown, each class in a semester is one credit.

thx for the responses, for the people that started off college with a good number of credits did you have a really easy course load the first term because what is it you need 15 credits a term to graduate in 4 years??
 
18 credits, 12.5 (switched majors, dropped classes), 18, now ~15/semester till i graduate (in 3 more semesters, woohoo!). I'll be spending my time off due to early graduation getting a job and saving up for law school since I won't be allowed to have during my first year.

As a side note, I dont know about other schools, but 15 credits here can be VERY easy. I took 3 history, 1 complit, and 1 almost-grad-level linguistics class -- all fairly heavy reading -- last semester, worked, and still had plenty of time left over to be bored. Last fall, I carried 3 history, 2 complit, and 1 linguistics class -- also all fairly heavy reading -- and also worked and had time to be bored, though exams were a crunch. It's all about time management 🙂

as a Senior i have 43 hours from: AP's(9), SAT2s(6), CLEPs(19), and summer school (9)

i took 4 classes every term and am graduating a semester early with 14 extra hours...

if you're in HS or starting college soon: be like me... take care of all the basic crap early so u can breeze through college and get drunk more often... you won't regret missing freshman classes, trust me...
 
my ex gf had like 30 something..or was it 40 something...well, after a few weeks, she was already a sophomore. a little TOO ambitious for me...and no there's nothing wrong with it.
 
I'm not a big heavy reading classes fan but I hear that's what college is all about ...

Anyway, I'm thinking about taking AP Microeconmics and AP Macroeconomics (i plan to go to grad school for business) so that would be two AP classes, I plan to take AP American History as well ... Maybe AP Stats ... I'm not sure I just hear that AP classes really impress colleges (besides giving you a lighter work load) ...

Also, is it true that an AP class is like taking two regular classes (in terms of work??)

Woah you get college credits for SAT2's? What kind of score do you have to get??

 
until you take the test, studying is intense....after the exam...i was playing cards all afternoon!
 
They didn't have AP classes when I was in high school, but I got 12 hours from the CLEP Test. That was quite a good deal; one day and $40.00 to get out of 4 required classes.
 
Zip, but then again I never went to HS so that's not surprising...

Not like it hurt me any, I have something like 180 now.

I skipped 6 Mos at ITT because of an ROP program (regional Occupational Program, put on by the local community college).

Ended up with a BS EET 6 mos before I turned 21
