How many credit cards should I have?

I am currently 24 and have one credit card to my name. It is the Citi bank dividend platinum select card. She has served for well for about a year and a half. I pay it off in full every month and never leave a balance.

Is it better to have two cards in case of emergency or if something happens to my current card. Or is one enough?

I also vote for at least two, three if you have buisness expenses. I have three, and I use one for my personal use, one for emergency use only, and the last for any buisness related purchases, airline tickets, and bills. (I get miles for the money I spend) The last one gets paid off every month, the personal usually carries some sort of balance, and the emergency card only has a balance if I had something drastic happen. (To date, I have had this card with a $5k limit and have used it only once in 3 years)

I say two, plus debit. Two if you have a decent line of credit on both. Three if you need one for business expenses.

I have about a billion credit cards...but i'd like to cut it down to 2 after I get them paid off.
