Having a job greatly increases your chance of getting approved for a CC. At least that's my experience. I have a personal savings acct. that's under my name since 16, got my Citi CC when I turned 18. Been working since 15, was never unemployed.

More than 5, most are in my fire safe. Off the top of my head I can think of... 10 or so.

I don't carry a balance on any.

I applied for the Platinum Divend and MTVu Visa cards from Citi, and I got accepted 2 days later with no co-signer. I don't know what made me get approved over you, this is my first card.

Your parents must have seriously farked up credit. Isn't that the only thing they go by if you have no credit?

That's what I'm thinking.

If you do not have any balances then I would recommend that you do not cancel them. You will get a hit on your credit report otherwise.

3. One of them is a mastercard that my dad pays for. I use this one to pay for books and food. I have my own mastercard and my own discover card.

I have 4 cards. I just use one to rack up my airline miles. I spend ~ 2500 on it every month. All purchases are paid off the next day online.

I have three:
Amex Starwood
Amex Blue Cash
Chase Amazon Visa

I'm trying to slowly phase out my Amex Blue Cash and use the Starwood, but I have a couple bills and a few extended warranties still on the Blue.

Can you explain to me why you would pay your credit card off the day after a purchase?

I have two, a Discover Platinum and a Chase Perfect.

Yeah I was wondering the same. :D Maybe he means the day after he gets the statement? At least one of my CC companies will only allow 4 online payments per month.

I know one of mine allows me to make payments ever 3 days. I feel it's best to wait until the last possible moment to pay the card of. As soon as I get my bill I set up a scheduled payment online to pay it off on the due date. That way I don't have a problem with forgetting.

None... but I have two £1500 interest-free overdrafts, and one of them is maxed out.

Just so that I don't forget about it. I just log on to the BofA site and pay it off. Funny that their payment system allows you to pay any sum you want at anytime regardless if you have a balance or not.
