How many CPUs have you damaged?

My partner recently got me a CPU and he burnt it. Hopefully the Mobo is not damaged...it had the worse smell ever! It was a learning experience for him and money in the toliet.

none, and they have all been oc'ed and overvoltaged 🙂
iv gone through:
AMD 5x86 133 @ 160mhz
Cyrix P-150
Intel 200mmx @ 250mhz
AMD k6-2 350 @ 460mhz
AMD Athlon 500 @ 700mhz
and my current cpu is AMD Duron 600mhz @ 1ghz 🙂

they're all still working fine (even the 5x86) in friends and relatives computers

What actually happened:

He did not put the heatsink on and he did not lock down the cpu. Lesson's learned 🙂

Strange enough, none. I even took an old p133, painted the pins with a black marker, washed it off in the sink with water and soap. Drained the CPU in water. Oddly, it still works....!

As everyone else have a couple of overclocked and overvoltaged CPUs. None has died on me. Yet
Cya all

one was a 486 that I put backwards because I wanted to see if it had protection (it was a spare/throwaway thing at the time)

the other was a Cyrix PR150L that I didn't have a working MB for and decided to take a dremil to.

An AMD K6-2/500 at work a couple months back. I'm not real sure what happened, but three of the pins were somehow melted. oh well.

a cyrix 166mhz, died from overheating. but because it was a cyrix im skeptical about wether i actually had anything to do with it overheating, or wether it was just a POS. i go with option number 2 😀
