I like to increase by about 1.5 to 2 times my CPU speed with every upgrade.
k6 300 -> k6-3 450 -> Athlon 600 -> Athlon 950 -> AXP 1700+ -> P4 2.8 GHz 800FSB (ordering soon)

I never bother to upgrade, too expensive:Q! I want to look like I do, though, so I wait for THUGSROOK to post about an upgrade, I copy and paste his results, add my name to the rig, and VOILA I look like I've got money to burn:cool:!

Just kidding, I never upgrade unless I can get at least another 50MHz/2fps, heh:p.

Went from classic 750 oced to 1Ghz, Duron 1.1 oced to 1.33, Palomino 1600+ oced to 2200+, now Tbred 1700+ that I slightly injured withinsane high voltage back in the winter. *note to self, do not run 2.0V+ on .13 micron CPUs*

Well, my upgrade history has been:
DX2-50 -> PI 150 -> PII-350 -> PIII-850
I just upgraded my video, plan to do a hard drive upgrade in the next month or so, and in the next 2-3 months the CPU/MB/Memory. I try to go by the rule of 3 (3X processor speed for non-top tier item). I'm a little late on this round of upgrades, but I'm waiting out hyper-threading CPUs.

Seems like there is always a FedEX or UPS delivery at my door
every week or two. Three systems to keep current. ;)

FedEX - Where is that 2.6C for my Canterwood?
I am having delivery withdrawals, already.

I do the same. I just upgraded my video card, and my HDD is next. I still run a P-III 500MHz because of my bottlenecks!

(1996) First HOME BUILT PC Celeron 300a , 3gig HDD
(1997) Upgrade mobo and CPU to Intel PIII 550
(2000) AMD Athlon T-bird 1 ghz (now my sons PC and home server..running XP Pro, 512 mb PC133 and OC'ed to 1.15 ghz)

Upgrade? What's an upgrade?

I've only had one computer(1.2 Thunderbird), and I'm still using it.

Usually a couple times a year, but hell when you run 8-10 processors at a time in single or dual thats enough.. sheesh

Id hate to be Geoffs or some of these DCers who run 20-30 machines. :Q

it all depends for me and what i need.. i have upgraded a few things this year.. such as logitech z640, viewsonic keyboard, soundblaster audigy, western digital wd800jb... i don't plan on upgrading my current computer right now.. just gonna leave it as a 1ghz intel... but i do plan on getting a laptop soon...

btw, first computer was a 133mhz intel and then got the 1ghz intel one.. wow, that was pretty impressive jump :D

Make a poll! You suck at the internet.

About every 18 months. I wait for the 50%'ers and OC the living crap outta them to get top performance.

Just in the process of migrating from an AXIA 'Y' '9' that did 1.53Ghz over the stock 1Ghz to a 1700+ JIUHB 0308.

Edit: Spelt AXIA wrong, what a tool.

this is true in most instances, however since I really only play warcraft III, it does that @ 1024 max detail just fine. So i'll live, and all other apps run just fine on my system. So i'll be good for a while...

My "main" machine gets upgrade officially once a year, but the past one had three CPUs in it while I looked for the sweet spot (Celeron 1.0A, 1.1A, 1.2). I have many other computers. Ummm, I go through about one CPU every month or two. Some of these I obtain by trading and none of them are high-end, all budget stuff.

486dx2 @ 66mhz -> Cyrix 166 -> P3 450 -> Athlon 1 ghz -> Athlon XP 1700 -> P4 2.53

The first two jumps were the most noticeable-

A couple of times a year, varies a bit within that.
In 2001 I upgraded from a Slot A Athlon to 1.2Tbird on MSI K7T LE with 768Mb pc133 ram and a GF2 Pro, then to an Asus A7V since my MSI died, then K7T Raid since I got that instead of the rma'ed MSI (they couldn't get the LE so I got one with raid instead) and a 1.4T-Bird, then K7T Pro2 RU with 1Gb pc2100 and a XP 1600+.
Last year it was only cpu and mobo, from the XP to a P4 1.6A on an Asus P4B533E, 512Mb Samsung pc2700 that was later changed for 512Mb Corsair pc3200. Got a GF3 Ti200 in january and a GF4 Ti4200 in september.
This year I've been through a 1.8A and 2.4B so far and plan to either get a new 800fsb chip and mobo if the trusty P4B533E can't take it with some tweaking or maybe just a 3.06/533 chip, really like that mobo =)
Won't mention time for hd's, had 2x40 in 2001, got to 600Gb in 2002 and is now at 850Gb :p
