Using a single console (i.e. only a handful of examples) as reasoning for making a universal generalization is poor logic.

Console games have framerate issues for the same reasons that PC games get them... poor optimization or stressing the hardware. It's even more sad when a console game has framerate issues, because unlike the PC market, the consoles are uniform.

Like I said, there's only issues with PC gaming if you're a dumbass.

Wrong. You forgot the primary issue with PC gaming: cost of entry. Sure, I might be able to play Crysis (or some similar specced game) on my current PC. But more than likely I would need to go drop close to a grand to get a new one.

I have the money to spend on a new PC if I want but at this point in my life I think I'll just stick with what I have + consoles.

I don't think he was being completely serious about the Gamecube. :)

In regards to FR issues - you're still working with a piece of hardware that's becoming more outdated with everyday that passes by that can't be upgraded. You can only optimize it so much. When massive amounts of sh!t happens on the screen at any one time, you're going to have a drop in frame rates regardless of if you're on a uniform console or the fastest PC that money can buy, period. You can't change that. You even said that yourself, when it stresses the hardware.

You can only code so many things to prevent the stressing of the hardware. You can't really code against a 16 player Live game where all 16 players throw down some explosive and trigger this massive explosion that slows everything down. I'd rather have FR issues here and there than a change/limitation in gameplay because the developer wants to keep it at a minimum of 30 FPS the whole game, no exceptions.

It depends on the game.

I think Xbox 360 rocks - but I'd still play some games on the PC

*raises hand*

And as a result I'm doing just fine with a computer that's over 4 years old.

Me.

I only ever played point&click games in the late 90's, and I dabbled in RTS when WC3 came out. Other than that, I've always been on a console.

Never thought I'd say it but my hand is up.

After about 10 years of doing computer upgrades to play the latest and greatest games I broke down and got an XBox360 last year. I'll admit that a Keyboard/Mouse combo is >>>>>> better than any console controller for FPS's but after a bit of adjustment it's not *that* bad. I'll also admit that a top end rig with maxed out graphics settings looks better than the same game on a console. However, it's $400 for my XBox and with the $200 HD-DVD add-on drive I can enjoy 50" gaming and home theater on a budget.

One argument a friend of mine has against console gaming is the games cost too much. Yeah, they might be $10 - $20 more than the PC version but his graphics card cost more than my entire console. Add in a case, motherboard, cpu, ram, audio, optical, etc, etc and there's no comparison in a cost/performance ratio. I think it's more a case of 'you get what you pay for'.

Not I, like some other people I don't really see conflicts between the two, but thats becoming less true with all of these cross platform games. I have a 360 and ps3, and I would rather play FPS on my PC than either of them, even if they have KB/M support. If it was an action game, like assassins creed, I would rather play it on a console. I personally want more non cross platform games to come out, I loved games like ICO, and am also a big into fighting games. Unfortunately most of the big 360 have been some hybrid of shooter, so I end up with one 360 game and a regular xbox game for my 360.

It's not that I'm not into PC gaming anymore, it's just that right now I'm into a console phase. I still like a ton of games for my PC but the last time I upgraded was to play Half Life 2. Team Fortress 2 is what I have been looking forward to but if it requires another upgrade I doubt I will get it.

Meh, I'm pretty much an equal opportunity gamer. If something comes out on the PC I'm interested in I will more than likely grab it, same with the 360. Don't have a Wii or PS3 yet but personally I haven't seen any game yet that make me feel I need either of those consoles. Not trying to start a console manufacturer's debate. I guess my point is if there is a game worth playing I will more than likely pick it up for that platform.

I'm curious how much impact the rental industry has on the console gaming prices. There are a ton of games out there I'd never consider buying for $60 but I'll rent them for free at Blockbuster (free instore rentals through online plan).

I just wonder what sort of bottom line impact those rentals make instead of people buying. Obviously "high demand" games will have more purchases from the rental stores to rent out, but it's still not the same as having a retail sale of that from thousands of console owners.

To me that's one of the best things about console gaming. Free/cheap access to games. Plus a huge second hand market that just doesn't exist for PC games.

I suppose we should enjoy that while it lasts, because theyre trying to do away with that as fast as possible with downloadable games. EB will fight it tooth and nail, but it's really only a matter of time before all games are downloaded.

I'd rather have the box and everything, but we're probably just not going to have any choice in the matter.

You will have a choice! Your choice is not buying the games!! I know I won't be.

I say the same thing now, but I get the feeling when I face the actual choice between downloading or not playing at all, I'll download.
