1. My desktop.
2. My old desktop.
3. My laptop.
4. Crappy computer stolen from ex-roommate. (Getting thrown away tonight)
5. My mother's old computer. (Getting picked back up on Saturday.)
6. My fiance's laptop.

Wow. I'm a loser.

I think if I put together all the extra components I've got lying around, I could get 2 more systems going, just no hard drives.

4, comprising 2 laptops and 2 desktops (the laptops are mine and my dad's, the desktops belong to my brother and my dad's SO).

ban for no poll

seven up and running regularly, countless others(at least 5+) laying around doing nothing, but functional

1. Main rig, in my sig I believe
2. My laptop
3. Dad's laptop
4. HTPC, also in my sig
5. Sister's computer
6. HP P200MMX rig

What would a hacked xbox be like for a basic file server? This thread has got me thinking. Also would there be an OS limitation?

Since you can FTP and send or retrieve files at will it would work fine. I have personally put only upwards of 80GB drives in them but I have seen them with 400GB. This requires an updated BIOS that can handle such partitions. I have one with a 200GB drive but I didn't install that particular one. Don't expect much in the way of storage out of the stock 8GB drive though, if you leave that intact.

You would either have to softmod or put a chip in one before you could gain FTP access. It's very simple once you've modded it. They make great HTPC's and gaming machines with the games loaded on the hard drive so no more scratched disks and faster loading times! Coupled with a wireless connection and access to your PCs HDD as well they are an incredibly fun and versatile, not to mention cheap mini computer.

Well it should be easy to figure out. I joined a year ago - was living ashore
for a few months. Came back to the ship in Jan. Work about 85 hours a week (seven days) and have posts. Was on leave for about a month just after Memorial day. Do the math. 😛

But I hear a storm is brewing. 😉

So do you ever get much of a chance to hang/socialize with the other crewmembers of the ship or passengers?

BTW, thats totally cool that you have internet out on that thing. They have to have one heck of a satellite connection to manage all the computers you said were on that ship 🙂

I sort of always pictured cruises as being parties 24/7 🙂

main rig, laptop, pvr rig, work laptop, deconstructed pentium 386

I could seriously heat my (small) apartment room in college with my computers alone!

Crewmembers = ok to flirt and date (or more).
Pax = ok for casual flirt but absolutely no more!

The internet connection is from a contractor. Otherwise I would not be here hardly ever as outside of port it would cost $0.10 a MINUTE and it's quite slow compared to the leosat system. 🙂

2 Desktop Towers in use
2 Servers in use.
2 Towers that need to be fixed (mom's computer and retired server)
5 Assorted towers and desktops I put together and donate to charity/people when the need arrives.
