Just wondering. Bonus points for figuring in wifi enabled cell phones.

We have 4 plus 4 cell phones.

including laptops, 6 computers. The kids and wife each have a laptop for school work (all are in college/taking college classes). 1 computer is an older Win98 system that's put away for a rainy day (if something should happen to my computer). 1 computer is an ancient Win 98 system that's used for music in the garage.

edit: plus 2 wifi cell phones. (and 2 other plain cell phones, one of which hasn't been charged since June. I hate cell phones & refuse to carry it.)

3 desktops, and 2 netbooks. Cell phones are plain.

Edit:
If you include unused computers, I have 2 that work, but are ancient, and enough parts to build at least 2 more, and almost enough parts to build a modern machine(need to rma some ram.

Edit2:
I also have a HP 200lx palmtop that still works.

Might as well factor in embedded systems in household appliances if you're considering cell phones and routers :)

I was thinking about that. I figured if it runs linux, that moves it to "computer" status ;)

else I'll have to count my heaps of MCUs...

1 workstation, 1 VM server, 1 backup server and one dev/fool around box.

The main server has a few VMs but guess we're talking about physical boxes.

Currently only my desktop, my laptop died at the hands of a 1990 Lucas Arts adventure game shortly before the new year.

Let's see -- here are the current computers that are active (defined as currently connected to the network):

1 server -- runs Win 2003 x64 as the base OS with PS3 Media Server running on the base OS as well. Also runs the free VMWare Server with VMs running a domain controller, web app server (Sharepoint dev environment and a Ventrilo server), a SQL 2008 Server (Sharepoint dev environment), and a Windows 7 media center that I just built and am in the process of configuring. Also contains copies of most of my DVDs for use with the media servers.
2 desktops -- main PC and my last generation main PC (Win 7 and XP)
1 HTPC -- currently powered off and will probably be discontinued, as with my media servers above and the fact we have DVRs, there isn't a lot of use for it (XP)
3 laptops (Win 7, Vista, XP)

ACTIVE: 7

Reserve computers -- work fine, but are not currently used and are stored:

3 desktops (2 XP, 1 Win 98) -- I will probably break these up and sell on eBay
1 laptop (1 Win 98)

RESERVE: 4

I have parts for at least one, if not two, more computers.

Computers which might work, but are currently stored in the garage (I am a sentimental fool and wanted to include these guys :) ):
1 Commodore 64
1 Vic 20
1 Commodore 128
1 Commodore Amiga 2000

UNCERTAIN: 4

Networked gaming consoles:
2 Xbox 360s
1 PS3
1 Wii

CONSOLES: 4

So in other words, way too many for a two person and one dog home. :) I just moved into this house late in 2008 and when I moved in, I got rid of at least 3 servers and enough computer components to build 3 to 4 more PCs. The wife wants me to get rid of anything computer-related in the garage. :(

This was an incredible machine in its day. I have my Amiga 2000 in the garage and it probably has not been powered on in 14 or 15 years. I really ought to hook it up and see if it powers on, but I would be surprised if it actually did. The Amiga emulators out there don't seem to work consistently for me and just aren't the same thing.
