You're mixing up curlups and pullups. Curlups are easier and is when your hands face in, pullups are when your hands face out. At least that's how it is at school. I think I could do 10 last year (when I was a frosh in HS).

Beginning of summer I could do 3, the end I worked my way up to 12, now...I'm probably down to 5 :(

With my pants laden with my normal cargo, I don't count on surviving if I ever end up dangling from a metal pole.

Without, like 10. I'm right on the edge of not being able to haul up my own weight.

Seriously though, even at 45 years old and atleast 15 lbs overweight, I think I can still do 8-10.

the other day in the weight room, after benching and doing some preacher curls, I did 10. Fresh, I might be able to do 15. This is pull-ups, with hands facing away.

Ok I did 8 but I don't have a pullup bar. I had to do them on the board of the door. I could of done more but at 6 it started to hurt my fingers and at 8 my fingers were about to fall off.

I think I can still it about 10 if I try... course, i haven't tried in a couple years... (and 20 pounds) :D
