I dabble. Piano, alto/tenor sax, recorder (really a pre-sax instrument), guitar, trombone, by order of proficiency. Started taking piano lessons around age 6. The only things I've played in performance or in some kind of band are the piano/keyboard and the alto/tenor saxophone. The others I've been playing off and on in my own time for a few years, but never had lessons and never played for performance of any kind.

I'm a guitarist, but I think most of the old time ATOTers already know that :)

I wish. I'd give my left nut to have any sort of musical talent, or carry a tune.

People who learn to play the piano (and most other melodic instruments) develop a natural improvement with their voice. You should try it :)

When you say "drum machines and synths" do you mean an electric drumset that actually takes skill to play? Or do you mean some stupid computer that all you have to do is point and click "play"?

The latter. But I still say that takes skill.

just about all the brass, guitar, and piano.

I would include drums.... but we all know it's just banging on stuff ;)
