I was just thinking about what would happen if a member like me was suddenly killed, and no one knew about it. And once again, it?s the age-old ?life goes on? thing? time has stopped for some people, but the world moves on for those who don?t know. It?s a hard concept to grasp.

Yeah. I know that if I died I don't think any family members would know to come on and say anything. A few friends on here would, if they found out.

Yes, but you have to realize that there are really only 1000 or so truly active posters.

Yup. I figure 2-3000 really active posters.

And acemcmac has been around for 3 1/2 years and has 13,000 posts, which puts him in the top few percent of the really active posters.

Way more than that. Anandtech is in the top 25 of all internet forums and is one of the top 3 computer based forums.

Current Statistics as of this moment:

  • General Information
There are 151,146 users registered here
    Spacer
There are currently 500 users logged in.

I think the average login session is about 30-45 minutes. So 500-800 people probably come and go every hour during peak times and late at night I often see 100-250 people logged in. I suspect that there are 5000-7000 active users and 15,000-20,000 light users (occasional posters). The rest are people that probably registered a long time ago and never used their accounts for anything beyond 20 posts or so.

I see a lot of names that I have never seen before that have been using this site for several years and have more than 5000+ posts, I am always discovering someone new all the time.

We are currently ranked 25 and as of last year we were ranked #13.

I'm one of those people that have been on this forum for a very long time, but I don't post that much.

Hmm, I think your guess is a bit flawed...

First, as it has been mentioned, there are only so many active members. People sign up then leave forever.

Second, the demographics of the United States wouldn't match with those of ATOT because people who sign up for AT make up quite a small niche of the total population, and I would assume our niche's exposure to deadly situations (murder, disease, age) is much lower than average.

It's sad looking at some of the boards that actually beat us...

yeah wtf, Gaia Online has 5 million members? I'd never even heard of Gaia until I saw it on the ranking.

But it looks like the listing might be pretty old: AT members = 106651 where it's actually above 150k.

Gaia is hugely popular because it's like a text-based MMO where you get money when you post. Making it nef-otopia.

Hey, I agree but I thought I'd take a stab at it anway. :p
There's a ton of stuff wrong with this guess, so feel free to come up with something more accurate :D

From my OP:
I assumed / not perfect:
-The "151,135 users registered here" figure is my size for "AT members"
-I assumed the US death rates apply to the demographic of AT
