Apparently the stainless steel is low quality and scratches easily. The sapphire crystal performs poorly compared to the scratch-easy screen. So you cant have the best of both World. Proof that simply copying Swiss watches is not a solution to creating a good smart watch

Stainless steel are not made equal. For example most use surgical grade 316 and Rolex uses 904. Not all 316l are made equal either. At Apples asking price they hopefully are using decent 316L, not the cheap Chinese blend. However the design leaves much to be desired due to highly visible polished finish everywhere.

The worst part is sapphire crystal. What a bummer to pay more for less.

Is this watch still cool? It's been a few days. :)

Hard to say, although they're apparently easy to see in the wild, depending on where you live. I'm the only owner I've seen here in Ottawa, but I was also both a guinea pig (I ordered a couple minutes after the online store got them) and happened to get my order within a few days of launch.

Slice Intelligence estimates that Apple is likely reeling in about 30,000 orders a day. That pales in comparison to the first day of pre-orders and Apple's other businesses, but that still amounts to about 2.7 million per quarter. For context, it took the entire Android Wear ecosystem nine months to rack up 720,000 sales. That'll probably get better, but it puts the launches in context.

Of course, whether or not you equate popularity with coolness is another matter. I wouldn't say it's the most charming smartwatch out there, but it at least doesn't look out of place sitting on the wrist like the original LG G Watch or a Samsung Gear S. Definitely useful, even if it needs truly native apps (not just phone app extensions) ASAP.

I think you should start supporting pocket watches, and yelling at kids on your lawn. I also have a moto flip phone I can give you, I hear they're coming back...

Pocket watches are cool. :hmm: In fact, old things are cool. Maybe one day the Apple Watch will be cool.

I hear buggy whips are coming back...

I don't give a flying f what's "cool", having a stock ticker on my wrist makes me money, that's what I care about. Notifications and phone calls are seriously handy for me. The Apple Watch is the best smart watch at the moment, I'm looking forward to using a Pebble Time Steel when they ship too.

Of course, I haven't had a landline phone for over a decade, and I was using smartphones a hell of a long time ago, heck, I had a Palm VIIx.

No ones stopping you from having and enjoying mechanical watches, or a horse and buggy either.

I didn't know having stock ticker makes me money, especially when it's delayed. I need to jump on that. :)

It must be a hipster luxury thing....

Yup, I have had that problem since launch too. It's all been ladies funny enough, I guess a product category doesn't exist for the fairer sex until apple makes one.

Hey, there are plenty of women who know what smartwatches are... they're the ones that aren't asking you! I just think the category is very young, and what's been out there until now wasn't appealing to (or marketed to) women. Can't imagine most women wanting to wear a big, stereotypically masculine beast like the G Watch R or Gear S.

I've seen more apple watches in the wild than android tablets.

ETrade's stock app is real time, Pebbles stock ticker pulls from Google Finance & it's real time.

Holy moly it is real time without any delay at all. Apple iWatch is the key to beat those speed traders. I am off to get myself rich y'all. Apparently having stock ticker means dollar dollar bills.

What does that even mean?

We all get it, you're a mechanical watch guy.

Do you honestly think technology will stand still?

What hasn't been changed by technology?

Standing on your lawn shouting at kids isn't going to change the tidal wave of change, it just makes you look silly.

TBH you're both coming across as as bad as the other.

You like it, he doesn't. Trying to beat each other over the head with your opinions is futile.

I just find the attitude of someone posting on a tech site full of enthusiasts about Luddite attitudes curious. Particularly after the guy who started the site now works for Apple.

I'm also not insulting people who choose to buy Android phones. I see a ton of posts by open wheel essentially violating the sticky at the top of the forum.
