I am going to be buying a DC adapter for an OQO that I have. I believe the AC adapter has died so I want to know if a AC to DC convter will work. Rather than having to buy another AC adapter for $100! The ac adapter outputs 5VDC 5A should I assume that the DC adapter requires the same? Will an AC to DC adapter that outputs 12V 500mA work? or will I need something bigger?
 
I'm totally confused about your question. What's an OQO? If it's an UMPC, then I suggest buying the replacement AC adapter so you won't ruin your $1600 OQO. You must match the output voltage, amperage, and polarity of the original AC adapter. Typical cigarette ports are 15 amps at 12V.
