How many Amazon orders have you placed so far this year?

85.
I noticed that for the holidays they offer $1 in digital credit for not shipping prime. Pretty sweet for those early shoppers.

AFAIK, that isn't just for the holidays -- they introduced "No rush" shipping a few months ago and offered $1 in digital credit per order where you selected that option.

19. More than I thought; I bought most of my Blu-rays from B&N this year since I can't stand getting the Canadian releases from Amazon.ca with the stupid French writing all over them. D:

probably my fewest in a long while

12, and that includes an order for someone else, and a subscribe and save that I forgot to cancel, so really 10

You said it yourself WITH PRIME. You pay for Prime. While yes, it can be a deal, it isn't that great of a deal when you get free shipping in many places w/o the minimum limit.

I spend hours, sometimes days comparing prices. In some cases Amazon is lowest, in most it isn't. Could be luck of the draw on particular items. Sometimes even paying shipping still ends up being cheaper than Amazon.

But I digress, do you people have any friends? There's always someone who has to argue here. I find it hard to believe you call out everyone you know every time they say something in person. They would think you are assholes and not stick around long. I've made around 400 online purchases in the last 4 years and only around 30 were Amazon. My comment was personal experience, no need for people to get all defensive about it. FFS.

Genuinely surprised by your experience. What are the places that ended up being cheaper than Amazon? I've stopped a lot of price comparing because at one point in time it felt like a waste of time since Amazon almost always comes out the best anyway, but maybe things have really changed?

Edit: 21 orders to date. At least 1 or 2 more before the end of the year.

Even if somewhere else is slightly cheaper, I often have items delivered same-day with Amazon. While someone else is spending days finding cheaper prices, I've already ordered, received, and moved on with life. 😛

I only placed 39 orders 🙁

There is no way that EVERY place is generally cheaper than Amazon. Also, I would be very surprised if most well-known places were cheaper than Amazon in general. This obviously will vary depending on what kind of things you order.

I was going to say that it is completely ridiculous that someone so concerned about money that they constantly comparison shop has hundreds of dollars in unspent FREE money at amazon, but then I remembered that it's not all that ridiculous for ATOT because it is well-established that everyone here is a billionaire.

Honestly, surprisingly many times it is Ebay storefronts. Now, I'm not talking just pennies here though. One would assume also if there were issues Paypal would be easier to deal with, however I've not had that issue. In the PC parts front, typically Newegg will still beat them overall.

Don't get me wrong though, there are some great deals on Amazon, but again it just depends on what you are looking for and when you are looking for it. One of my two items off Paypal this year was a set of aftermarket motorcycle pipes. $40 cheaper than anywhere else that I could find them.

Fair enough. I've just never had to have something badly enough to pay a premium to have it same day. There is a mentality associated with that which could be a completely different thread.

Recently...

Monitor: Newegg, by stacking 3 promo codes.

Bit driver set (tired of my separate disjoint ones): again, Newegg, surprisingly (didn't buy it there, due to a minimal price difference, but it was cheaper).

HDDs: Newegg, again, with a promo code stacked on seasonal sale.

SSDs: Newegg had everybody beat with the 730 sales.

Aside from some good monitor sales, Amazon is usually not the cheapest for PC parts, IME. Often times, I can find the sellers have an eBay storefront, or their own site, with cheaper options, too.

Amazon is competitive, and I don't bother buying elsewhere to save just a few dollars, but for what I buy and when I buy it, they are not the cheapest as often as they are. If Prime or free shipping eligibility were universal, they likely would be cheaper most of the time, but I find I rarely end up with a whole cart of eligible items.
