In W10, when i go to settings > devices > mouse & touchpad, there is an on/off toggle for the touchpad. Can I create a direct shortcut to this toggle on my taskbar (or desktop) so when i tap it the touchpad switches between enabled and disabled. I want to be able to disable the touchpad from time to time when working on something.

Thanks for the help.

When the Touchpad is off it can not be touched to turn it on because it is Off and do not sense the On Touch.

I wasn't talking about a physical on/off switch. I meant the touchpad on/off toggle in the windows settings (see above). How can I create a desktop shortcut to that software toggle? What command line do i use?

What machine is this? I assume some kind of a laptop?
If so, usually, there is a Fn+___ key you can hit to enable/disable it.

It's a Dell XPS 13" 2016 laptop. No function key for this unfortunately. I can only set it with a software toggle when i go to windows settings > devices > mouse & touchpad. Is it not possible to create a command line based shortcut to such a soft toggle?

You would have to know what that setting in the control panel actually modifies. I am guessing it is a registry key, and if that is the case, then yeah, you could do a small batch file that turns in on/off.

Actually finding that key is a bit more tricky.

Never ran into a laptop where they didn't have a Fn hotkey to disable that though, it is really odd they don't have a way to do that on your unit. Talk about cutting corners. :(

Another possible route is that most touchpads' software has an option along the lines of 'disable touchpad automatically when external pointing device is plugged in'. When you want to disable the touchpad, plug in a mouse or a wireless mouse receiver. Unplug when you want the touchpad back.
