How low will the Dow go?

Investors are nervous - this week's loss on the Dow Jones Industrial was about 450 points, and I don't think the mood is going to look up so long as the economy stays where it is and the Iraq situation is hanging over our heads.

I predict that the Dow will drop to 7,000 if war breaks out, and below 6,000 if it drags on for more than three months. Anybody else want to hazard a radom guess too?

Thats just the way things go.
Considering the fact that many stocks are stilll over valued, there is still much room for it to drop...

3 months? What planet do you live on?

If there is a war, it will be over almost before it starts.

I don't know how low the DOW will go this year, but I don't believe it will go up at all. There are too many other things going on.

Getting rid of saddam won't help the market, only hurt our products internationally. Anyhow, whenever someone posts here about how low the market will go, it usually reverses within the next week.

War is inherently uncertain. I remember people were predicting that Desert Storm would be Vietnam II, and drag on for years, but it didn't happen that way.

Now people say Iraq will crumble in a few days. That might happen, but it also might not happen. Iraq might be pitifully armed compared to the United States, but so was the Viet Cong. It all depends on how fanatical the Iraqi army and people are. If they are all brainwashed and determined to fight to the bitter end, then this war will take more than three months.

Like any pyramid sceme you need more investors at the bottom to make the company worth more and those stocks higher. So after SS in vested in the stockmarket I predict 15000-20000 then crash, sell then at 15000.

Hold a piece of paper over the years 1970-1995...

Ignore the curve from 95+, extrapolate the growth along your straight edge; it shows a potential bottom of 5500 if you ignore the "irrational exuberance" of the internet. there'll be a nice bump after the bottom though
