How LOW will car thieves go - see inside

It's like stealing the wheels off of a car, you don't need to bust a lock or window to do it, it's non-traceable, easy to transport, and can be sold for cash pretty quickly. Makes a lot of sense to steal really, if you're going to steal something.

I heard recently on Miata.net of a guy who had a broken exhaust, head with a bent valve, and broken RC helicopter stolen from his storage unit. That's just weird.

at least they could have stolen his herrafrush wheels too

anyways, I've been hearing of more people getting their cats stolen, especially from trucks

yeap. last summer we had to fix my wifes car. the mechanic mentioned that he has noticed people comeing in with the cat cut out. he said talking to his buddies at other shops and such its going on everywhere.

i asked whey they would do that. i guess they are made with something that makes them worth a lot.

probably worth it to engrave your info somewhere on a hidden area before installing expensive bits like this.

Platinum.

i had my drive shafts stolen off my 79 chevy 4X4. it was on a 2.5" lift, and had just been lowered from an 8" lift. the drive shafts were too long for the 2.5" let alone stock, so i hope they put it on their truck and bashed out their drive train on the first speed bump they hit. i also had my exhaust stolen off one of my bikes. also had a flatbed pull into my driveway and drag off my 80 cadillac. talked to the neighbors and all. told them i was having it restored. ill find those fuckers one of these days.

Amazing. Please tell me that you're not kidding.

I had the radio stolen out of that lol a month ago. I always figured the way it looked was a pretty good theft deterrent but I guess not. Funny part of it is the head unit's display didn't work and it needed to be replaced anyway.

When I had my Datsun wagon in HS some dude broke the drivers side window, popped the hood and stole the battery... which was the most valuable part of that car. 😀

Platinum.

Actually, it's platinum, rhodium, and palladium. (<- ex cat-engineer here)

The really smart guys own a ceramic bathtub. They cut open the cat, then acid bath it in a couple different acids to remove the precious metals. You can make a pretty hefty profit if you're smart about it, but it's not a very nice process to deal with. It's also EPA regulated, but the guys doing it in their backyard really don't care much about that anyways.

Just as ghetto as stealing someone's truck tailgate. I couldn't believe it when my buddy told me his tailgate was stolen.

Damn, with Rhodium at $6000-10,000/Oz I ought to get into to catalytic converter theft business. xD

seeing how much cats go for on ebay, i should have cut out the one on my dad's old car before the state drilled holes in the engine block
