Mine has gotten louder also. It even whines every once in a while. I was thinking of pealing the sticker back and putting a drop of machine oil in there.

todays - mine whines too. i put my finger on it to stop the fan for a second and it's at least twice as loud as my taisol.

hmmm maybe i should put some oil in. do i need a specific type of oil? do i just add a few drops on the rotating part?

thanks.

pull the plug on it. as long as you have grease between the chipset and hs, you probably don't need that marketing gimmick anyway.

ok just took a look at it after i heard it (actually hearing it rt now) make weird noises. the northbridge fan is broked or something. it spins then stops spinning and starts spinning again. i don't know what's wrong with it. i think i'm just going to remove the fan altogether.

edit: ok i just ripped out the fan. ahh so much quieter.

Mine makes a whining sound for about 5 minutes when I start my PC, but since I haven't had to turn off and turn back on my PC for a long time.. It's been running great. :)

Funny taht you'd mention that... About a week ago, when the northbridge fan on my Abit board started making more and more noise (at the time I din't know what it was), I opened the case, tired to find out what that was, then turned off the pc, then turned it back on. And then... the northbirdge fan was stopped!

I took it out to take a closer look. I think they used a very low quality fan. Also, I could tell that they used lubricant of some kid to keep things smooth. But I'm guessing that the lubricant atracted dust and the whole thing just clogged up...

I used Radio Shack pots cleaner & lubricant spary and the fan now runs again.
But I'm gonna get a diferent one, probably blue orb (because it looks so cool, lol) to replace the stock fan. I have a funny feeling the stock fan is not gonna last long.
The moral of the story is, I guess, keep an eye on that northbridge fan!

it whines because it uses bushings and they get worn out easy. Unlike the sunons which use ball bearings.
