Thinking of getting a new cpu, and I'm wondering loud noisy the stock hsf is
for a E6400. Don't really plan on OCing, but if it's kinda loud then I'll probably get a
Zalman 9700.

should be fine. I can't hardly hear it, but I never left one on long...

yep, the stock C2D fan is quiet and the heatsink is pretty big. I was impressed compared to the rinky-dink P4 fan on my old computer. This CPU is very efficient and does not heat up much with heavy use, so the stock fan stays quiet.

Its the same heatsink and fan that cools the prescott based core duo's so its more than qualified to cool a conroe based chip. You can do light to medium overclocking on one, but for anything serious you'll want to upgrade.

yeah the mounting is a royal pain.....question guys, how hot does your c2d get on stock speeds, my old asrock dual 775 never got above 45C, and now with my p5b its hitting low 50's, i figure it might be reseating the heatsink and such, but would it rise THAT much from it?

edit: Markfw900,mmmmm rx8.....*cries* i want my rx7....

Second that, the mounting mechanism sucks.

My p5b is the same. in the 50's under load.

The stock HSF is fairly quiet. No overclocking planned.

I spend the most frustrating time when installing the hsf.

My new rig is coming next week. Why is the mounting sucks? Is it really hard?

The mounting system is retarded for the stock heatsink.

Expanding plastic clips that are locked in place by flimsy levers.

Seriously, when my buddy & i were building his sytem, it took both of us to get the damn thing on, as it kept popping out :frown:

It does run pretty quietly, but i'm be wary of how well it will stay on when transporting the case around.

Very bad heatsink if you take you PC to LANs etc. IMO.
