How long will the tech slide continue?

Would it be different if chip manufacts. were not pushing double the speed of previous every six months. hope intel has lots of money because they will be the ones paying for the ramp up in speed versus the consumer!! We have already seen a slow down in chip releases. WHat is the fait of the athlon? ANy comments?!!!
