How long will the rein of Google last?

Look, I stand behind Google because it supports open source, gives me correct answers, and has the easiest-to-navigate website. How many large corporations openly support open source software? Let's see...... IBM, Redhat, and that one other one. And then Google. Only recently have they actually contributed back to the open source movement, but the fact that they are supporting open source places them much higher on my list. While Microsoft and the recording companies, and many software companies are doing all they can to stagnate the progression of a number of resources of information, and hiding their code to keep their innovations to themselves, the open source movement has been busy helping people, not themselves. What field has progressed our society into the tech-loving, car-driving, computer-using conundrum of mundane minds that is known as the (guess who) people? Science. What advocates open access to new innovations and the augmentation of new ideas? Science. We have led longer, fuller, and enriched lives because of science. Open source moves in this same way-progressing, not marketing. Although the necessity for security and finances needs to be addressed, you cannot tell me that Google is not doing fine financially. And show me a more secure operating system than a linux flavor and I'll say that it can only be a Macintosh. This is why I will not use yahoo or msn search. Hurah for Google. Once the world embraces open source, advocates the abolishment of all this secrecy and the hinderments of copyright laws, and generally progresses towards a more mature and secure society, we might actually look back and laugh at how stupid we were. Until then, I am laughing relatively alone.

Google has a lot of problems for the future. Their growth, while good for short term gains, is questionable for the long-term. Oh, I have no doubt their earnings for the next two years will be incredible. But after that, it's a toss-up. Their search engine isn't getting any more marketshare than it has in the last few years. Yes, their adwords program is awesome, but there's a lot of flack being taken by the content providers who feel cheated by the program, plus their customer service sucks a** big time. Took me over two weeks to get a reply to an email I sent them and they never answered my question!

Superior engine it is not. Do a search on several engines and you'll come up with pretty much the same results. I find Yahoo! finds me the best quality pron when I do a search for "boobies." Simply amazing I tell you. With google it shows me man boobies which I don't like at all.

You like it really...

How long will the long narrow leather strap attached to each end of the bit of a bridle and used by a rider or driver to control a horse or other animal of Google last??

😕 <-- click

I'm currently working for them.
I hope they last 🙂

I missed out on the whole dot com bubble burst, so I just can't picture how a company like Google will go away. Company continued to grow for the last 7 years.. I don't know why some people think it's unstable. Sure the stock prices can drop dramatically, but Google still is a great company with huge revenues right?

Oh well... I guess we just have to see.

I think they came into the picture at the perfect time and there will not be another case like them unless the internet changes somehow. It would take a miracle or their own disaster to bring them down.

I found this.
rein - n.
3. A means or an instrument by which power is exercised.

I did mean reign although a "means or an instrument by which power is exercised" basically has the same meaning.

I think they were late to get into the web search business. There were many established engines that came before them.

They will bust. They're really good, but come on $410 for a company that sells little web ads and makes money pretty much nowhere else. Not to mention all the fraud that goes on in their advert system. They will bust hard like a dot-com and come down to a sensable $30 in the next year or so.

Who is there to replace them? Microsoft?

Replace what? If Microsoft does in fact come out with a better ad program, google will be toast. It's the only thing from google I even like anymore.

No, I'm sure he means "rein", like the things you use to control horses. Either that or I'm seriously overestimating the OP's level of literacy and command of the English language...

i think you're overestimating your level of literacy and command of the english language.
its reign

I think they're gonna run out of new stuff

There's your sign!

It's great to innovate, but do it intelligently.

From my layman's view, it's like they're over-diversifying themselves in a effort to maximize their exposure when they should be focusing on continuous improvement of their core advantages.
