Built my computer end of 2004

fx-55
bfg 6800gt oc AGP
1gig ram

My next build looks to be around VISTA and DX10 once parts are readily available.
So im hoping early next year.

Obviously I am still on AGP which will be changing.

I will be upgrading to the current video cards once DX 10 is available.

And I will be adding another gig of RAM.

Will my processor be a bottleneck at all in this time?

I will be gaming alot and looking forward to what the next gen hardware will have to offer.

Will I be ok with the fx-55 still? it will be a good 2.5 years old.
I do not overclock and do not even know how so thats not an option.

Thanks

seriously the 6600 core 2 duo looks to be a great deal, make the switch :D

fx55 isnt dual core so maybe you should consider it?

It will be good until it is not. When you notice that it cannot handle what you are currently doing. If you are talking about games, you have to figure out if the CPU or GPU is the weakest link.

your CPU won't be a bottleneck for a while. as of now, the 6800GT is generally the bottleneck in games. by the time Vista and DX10 stuff comes out, your comp will still be fairly fresh.

LOL true, but understand when I built this system, the 6800gt and ULTRA were the top cards.

Switching is a waste of money if he does not require a dually.
Seriously u stick that 6800gt into a comp with a 3200+ or a dual core conroe overclocked at 4ghz, games performance will be equal.

U can try just changing the multi to 14, it will make ur fx55 run at 2.8ghz.

Anyways, u can always get a 939 pcie mobo and gfx card.

This is what i was planning.

So the CPU should be ok with Next gen hardware IE: DX10 Video and what not.

No real need for dual core, until I see it worth it in gaming, I'll hold off. I do not multi-task enough for it on a day to day basis.

I would just hate to upgrade and find out my processor will be a bottleneck with upcoming video cards.

I guess I wont know till there here :)

I am in a similar boat as you, i.e. Fast(actualy Opty 165@2.6Ghz) socket 939 with 6800-based AGP. Do you guys think we will see any new socket 939 boards before AM2 takes over completely? If not, how long do you think the current 939 PCI-E boards will remain in the channel?

It's really too bad they killed AGP because you still have a killer processor.
