I don't think there's a concrete answer to that, but considering the amount of price-fixing in the past, i wouldn't be surprised if there was stuff going on behind the scenes we don't know about, & i seriously doubt it has to do with production.

I noticed that right after core 2 came out RAM prices skyrocketed. I ordered my ram the day before core 2 came out so I got mine nice and cheap, half of what it was at one point. I think it has something to do with supply and demand. Core 2 is DDR2, therefore when people wanted new builds, everyone wanted more ram.
