How long will it be before wireless providers provide unlimited service for "one low price"?

Why the hell would they do that, when they can nickel and dime with all of the trivial charges - send photos for $X / month, texts for $Y/ Month. I think they do make a killing on overages, also.

Edit: Yes, I'm bitter for having them to pay them that much $$ each month, and yes it's my fault/responsibility for signing the contract / becoming dependent on the service in the first place.

Dobson CellularOne, a region carrier, already offers unlimited local plans for 40 or 50$ per month

Lower prices all around and more competitive pre-paid service would be nicer. Carriers like Metro PCS are unlimited in their local area, but you pay old fashioned roaming rates when you get out of area.

too many dropped calls with Metro PCS. I am going back to Cingular after staying with Metro for ~4 months.

It was still decent (~$55/mo) if you are using as your personal phone but for business use, I couldnt afford getting dropped in middle of important calls.

Yes, I know there are dropped calls with Cingular (and other carriers also) but with metro, i was averaging ~2-3 dropped calls per day.

Now, If metro would charge ~$70-75 for no dropped calls, then I would sign up for that...

I think there are regional carriers already with unlimited service. and Amped is ~99/mo also.

When can they add more minutes to their basic $40 plan. This is like the plan most individuals have. I like how T-Mobile has been offering 600 minutes for a long time, but with my switch to Cingular, I'm worried 450 won't be enough. Once the rollover starts kicking in, I should be fine as some months I go really heavy on usage, almost gobbling my 600minute Tmobile plan up....

Didn't AT&T (before the Cingular merger) offer a $99/mo unlimited plan a few years ago?
