How long will Gillette be able to profit from their insanely overpriced razors?

I get 6 months out of a gillette blade. My wife gets 6 days before she wants to swap hers out. Then again I clean and dry my razor after every shave and she doesn't. Problem is when I would go to replace a cartridge I couldn't find them as they were all used up by my wife. Then I started hiding them when I bought them and she switched to using my razor when she couldn't replace hers. Really annoying.

Part of the reason why I am contemplating switching to a safety razor.

wow..same story here.. Damm freaky.. what's up with women doing some completely illogical shit.

How are people able to go 6 months on the same blade. I'm not that hairy and I can use the same blade for a month and I have tried to go 6 weeks on the same blade but after two weeks I get a whole bunch of nicks & cuts.
I can't imagine what would happen after 24 weeks.

I've used the same cartridge for a couple months now. The blue/green indicator strip is still there, and still cuts fine. I have really course dark hair, but I only shave after I shower so it's as soft as it can get. Something is wrong if you can't go over a month. Sounds like you might be pressing too hard.

Forever. I just bought some overpriced Gillette's & I'm glad I did. I got a big box of the Dorco razors from Slickdeals (the ones that Dollar Shave Club apparently uses) & they are like cheap windshield wipers...just not as smooth as the good brands. Tug on your skin, kinda hurts, just don't do as good of a job. Went back to Gillette after a month of using the Dorcos, soooo happy I did. Worth the money!

Also learned a good tip from the Slickdeals Dorco thread - dry off your Gillette after every use & it can last up to a year! I've been doing that and the blade has stayed good so far, which is awesome. And if you think about it, the Gillettes are really only expensive in your head...$20 for a 4-pack, and a blade typically lasts what, at least a month? So you're really paying five bucks a month for a sharp razor. I can live with that. It IS annoying when you buy that tiny little package for so much money at the store though 😛

I've found the Dorco razors absolutely DESTROY my face until they dull a bit. Once I've used them four or five times they get comfortable, but before that it's just impossible to not cut the crap out of myself. Never had that issue with the Gillette razors. But I'm too cheap to go back.
