how long will a tapped keg last?

How many of your beer-drinking friends attended the party?

Mebbe get a better beer next time and you won't have as much leftover...

30 or more. but the beer drinking friends also drank liquor, champaigne, wine, and whatever else there was.

don't really have any beer snob friends like most of the cool people on atot.

i know this is probably a bad idea, but if i tasted it tonight before i return the keg and it tasted fine, and i put it in like empty soda bottles and sealed it, would it be bad by this weekend most likely.

On co2 and at 38 degrees I keep mine for about 6 months max, but toward the end the taste changes a little. The carbonation is fine, but it starts to taste a little different around that 6th month.

yeah heard you can keep it for about 6 months. not sure i can drink a keb that fast.

Just buy a whole bunch of those IKEA rubber icetrays and freeze the beer. I like the fish shaped ones. Alternatively just freeze dry the beer or vacuum seal it. If you want to get really creative you could try vaporizing the beer and then keeping it in party balloons until you're ready to let it turn back into a liquid for consumption.

tasted the beer tonight and it was flat as shit so the keg has been returned!

there was actually probably like a 1/5 or so left in it. it felt heavier when i lifted it the other day because ice froze on the side of it, but tonight when i got it out it was not as heavy as i remembered, due to the ice i broke off of it.

new years i got a keg of miller lite and tapped it that night. there is still like a good 40% or so left in there. we just had a hand pump to pump the keg.

i've been getting mixed reviews about how long it will last when doing a google search. just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and knows how long it will last. i was hoping to keep it for the playoff games this weekend but it seems from the research i've done that chances of it lasting that long and tasting okay are slim.

granted, this is just some basic light beer and nothing fancy. it's still cold outside and it's still on the ice that it was put on monday night.

You need a CO2 pressure system to keep beer from going flat in the keg. You can pump(before the beer goes flat) it into empty 2 liter pop(they are made to contain pressure) bottles, seal them and store them in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

You get something like 150 red cups of beer out of a keg. So next time do the math on how many people are showing up. Sometimes a pony keg makes a lot more sense.

You *have* to cap on foam or that will not work. Either that or purge with CO2 before filling.

well when you have 40 or so people over that is less than 4 beers a piece so it should easily be kicked. except there was also bottles and bottles of liquor, wine, and champaigne, as well as bottles/cans of other beer, since people also brought their own stuff and we had other stuff too.

hmm 1/6th at 6 months is only 10 beers a month. i can hit that..

I think you said earlier you want a keg for the taste of tapped beer, but if you are worried about cost...check out the prices before you jump to a lower volume canister. A lot of times 1/4 is way less value than the 1/2 where I buy them. I think I pay only 20 bucks less for half of the beer ($100 vs $80) at the place I buy them. I just pay the extra $20 and walk around drunk every day :awe:.

We have people over so I can usually kick 1/2 in 6 months, but lately that hasn't been happening (ahh parenthood has changed our lives haha). But I'm not wasting too much either, so I'll stick with the halves for now.

Either way, it's still better than dealing with empties, and it tastes better.

If you are looking to buy one cheap, check craigslist. Usually there are a lot to choose from. I bought mine new (Danby, it's a cheap brand) for I think $300, and my friend bought the same thing from Craigslist for $50, in near perfect condition.

I guess it's just like weight lifting equipment, you get into it for a few years, then it collects dust for a few more, then it ends up on CL to save space in your house. 😀

I wasn't suggesting your friends were all beer snobs. If you had so many other types and kinds of liquor a pony keg of something more tasty than Miller light may get floated.

Or get more friends. Heh heh...
