How long will a CPU live?

Whats the normal life for a Athlon? Also if I was to bump my pretested 1gig@1.4 up to say 1.33 or even 1.4@1.8v how much life would it knock off of it? Or should I even worrie about it because I will need to upgrade by then anyway?

Was thinking about bumping it up to get a bit more performance. Also if I was to use the multiplier would it effect anything else in my system life wise like the mobo?

As long as the temperature is at a reasonable level, you can expect many years from your chip. I bet you will most likely want to upgrade to something x times faster before your chip stops working.

Overclocking via the multiplier only affects the CPU.

Whats a good safe temp for it to run at? I know it all has to do with how cool the chip stays during its life. The cooler the better.

I get scared when my temps go above 105 degrees F, but that's only cuz i got an ALPHA PAL 8045T. Anything in the 130 degrees range should cause concern, though 120 degree F range is nice, as is 11x range. Basically, get really worried if it reaches 150 degrees. AMD says that their processors are designed to withstand 190 degrees F, but your processor will die earlier than those kept at 110 degrees F.
