How long until we start seeing DDR4/5 or another form of memory standard?

Aren't we past due? I realize the speed/bandwidth demand is not as great as in the past and may be the reason. Whats your thoughts?

I believe that today's economy and overall market conditions have a bearing on this. Such things are the product of R&D. In any business, R&D comes off of the bottom line (unless the government is paying for it.) Current earnings margins are thin at best.

There are probably technology advances already in reserve, but going into production involves a major business decision, and the market dictates that to a large degree.

That sounds about right to me. Nicely said.

I was wondering the same thing some days back, Samsung have working chips http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ddr4, but widespread availability might be delayed till 2013. Just curious is there going to be some version of XDR, though it is for all practical purposes dead.

DDR3L has been around for a while 1.35v and 1600 so should we expect something like 1.0volt and 2133mhz?
