How long till mainstream 6 cores?

Considering how many computers are sold with Pentiums, Celeron's and i3's, I'd suggest that 4 cores is barely mainstream now.
Most of those Pentiums and Celerons have four cores. Unfortunately, they're four terrible Atom cores.

Edit: Maybe that's the future, six Goldmont cores.

I think you guys are also forgetting that DX 12 is going to make very good use of 4+ cores and that gaming over the next few years will benefit greatly from multi core systems. I guess this is one thing we can thank the consoles for.

Yes. Sony's decision to stick with the weak Jaguar CPU means developers are going to have to continue to prioritize multi-core code to help to offset the low per-core performance.
