how long since your last restart?

i try to never shutdown my computer since it actually somewhat decreases the lifespan by turning it off frequently, but recently i noticed there is no performance loss even after several days without a restart. i know server 2003 and windows 2000 can go for weeks or months without a restart, but xp always gave me this "bloated" feeling if i didnt do it every few days.

its been 26 days, 4 hours, 37 minutes, and 1 second since my computer was last restarted.

26 minutes I shut mine off at least every night. Seems pointless to leave it on. I don't think component failure from turning a computer off is a real issue in the couple of years you may have any given part. I would think fans would die quicker from running more.

My linux box made 347 days before I had to turn it off to move, now its on 136 days. Most I have got out of my windowsXP machine is 42days, its on 8days 3hrs atm.

I have to qualify that thats my router box, a 386sx16 with 4 megs of ram running a really old kernel. But it has no moving parts, so its a pretty sturdy system.

It would probably be closer to 1000 days by now if I hadn't had to replace the UPS.

Depends on the box.
My Nat/web/Ftp/DB/ventrilo/eggdrop server box has a pretty nice uptime
"14:20:25 up 216 days, 23:51, 4 users, load average: 0.15, 0.15, 0.17"

I don't know about my other home boxes since I'm at work, and don't have ssh servers running on them or anything.
My laptop (win2k) is over 200 days. My main gaming rig is probably less then a Week since I reboot it often.
My PC at work has been up since Monday, It'll be shut down on Friday at the end of the day. (No reason to leave it on over the weekend.)

7 hrs. I never leave my comp on for these reasons:

electric
electric
electric
( my brothers maybe 🙂 ? )
virus
trojans
hacking?

I leave mine on 24/7 in the dorms unless I leave for the weekend. Usually it goes without a reboot for a week or two. I don't like rebooting.

I dual boot Windows XP and Linux, so my uptime is about 2 hours right now, but my Linux file server has 283 days uptime.
