How long should I wait?

In short, I have his $70 and his DVD burner.

Been sitting on it for 2 weeks now. Can't contact him. Doesn't answer phone, sent him snailmail about it, didn't provide email address, and I'll be damned if I'm driving over there or shipping anything.

How much longer should I keep it before I consider it a christmas present?

I have a 2 week policy exactly for that sort of thing. I've acquired a laptop this way last month. A Dell Inspiron 4000 with a 14.1"LCD P3-650, 384mb and a 30gb drive. Wifi card and leather carrying case too.

Because
A) He didn't pay for that
B) He requested installation (payment for that is due on-site)
C) There's still a $5 balance on the DVD burner itself, which is part of my installation deal. I don't want to eat $5.

Bah, humbug to the first person to tell me to just ship it off because it's christmas

I've claimed TWO laptops like that. Both had some pretty severe issues with them. So I got a laptop and $300 (I kitbashed the two laptops together into one usable thing, and my nominal laptop fee is $150)

Apparently some people just go out and buy Dells and forget about us spending our time trying to fix their old ones, even after they paid us for it.

If he paid using credit card, refund his money. If he paid with cash or check, send him his money back to his address in the form of a check. By law, you are supposed to be turning stuff like that over to the state if you have no other way of dealing with it.

He's probably being tag-teamed on a boat by two guys... give him some time! That's why your relationships don't work.

That one made me laugh. Seriously. But yeah, I suppose I'll wait until after the holidays, bust out the company checkbook and refund his money. And then laugh my balls off when it never gets deposited.

Cool. Only problem is the display is bad so I'm gonna need to spend another $150 or so for an LCD replacement. Also I think the CDROM is bad too since it's not reading any disks now. Oh well. Wanna buy it cheap? lol

Unless it's a Quanta [I can look up the applicable vendor-models] with a good bottom pan, I'm not interested. That's the only part that's still busted on mine.
