How long past its expiry date would you say ham is good for?

I usually push most foods past their expiry date by a day or two if I have to but I don't eat much meat so it's usually safe to do so. We got a ham from someone over Christmas and I'm the only one in the household who eats meat. Expired yesterday. Still looks and tastes fine. How do you usually tell with something like ham? Colour, smell, texture? Should I just toss it or do you think it should be good for a day or two more?

With something like ham, it would be smell, color and texture.

Throwing things away because they're a day or two past their expiration date borders on extreme stupidity. Does the rancid fairy come and touch it at midnight on the expiration date? 😛 Remember, it would still be in the store just before the expiration date.

In reality, things should be good for at least a week past the expiration date, unless your fridge is set to 55º.

Edit: And... eh. If you've already eaten some, then you already know it's still good. lol

Yeah I usually do keep things up to a week after they are expired, not a day or two as I said, but most of that is non-meat. I'm more cautious with meat though. But like you say smell, colour, taste test.

Incorrect, I'll know in a few hours 🙂
