How long of a drive do you have to work...and do you mind it?

One thing that I have noticed about people is that they answer the "how far of a drive do you have to get to work" question differently depending on if they live in the city or in the country.

Typically, if you ask someone who lives in a rural area that commutes to an urban area, they will give you the distance in miles. And, when you ask someone who lives in an urban area, and commutes to a place within that same urban area, they will give you the distance in time.

Also, the people who commute from the rural areas generally don't mind the drive.

For myself, I have a 25 minute, 15 mile drive one way to get to work. It's on a two lane highway with a posted 55 MPH speed limit. The highway has a lot of trees all the way along it, and crosses over a very pretty looking part of the Iowa River. My drive to, and from work is very relaxing. At the end of the day, I actually look forward to my drive home.

How about you?

mines about the same, but at 65mph limit and usually no cops so 80 the whole way it's pretty nice. I enjoy the calm before the storm. Have a smoke, listen to music and be by myself, on the way to work, and back.

I really dont have a drive to work. From the minute I leave the house and turn on my phone it starts ringing, and work has begun :(

Of course I basically drive from location to location all day, so I commute all day.

Right now I have a 45 minute drive to and from work... it's not too bad, it's pretty much a straight shot down I-35 so it's easy enough to relax and flow along with traffic. I hate getting up early to go into work though, the afternoon drive is much better...

My previous commute (and the one I'll be going back to in August) was maybe 15 minutes on the outside, over surface streets... it's also a relaxing drive, but too short to really get mellowed out... I'm completely relaxed while driving, and given the choice I'd take the short commute in the morning, and the longer commute at night... :)

well, to school, it takes me exactly 20 minutes when driving normally. If i am late, i can cut that to 15 minutes. There is never any traffic, and it is down a 45 mph road, but i usually drive about 60 on it.

i used to drive my dad to work, then go to school, and that would take about an hour to do. I enjoyed the long drives, especially since i didn't have to pay for that gas.

up to an hour one way on the 10. The drive is a f*cking bitch. No better way to end your day than to fight for every last f*cking inch of the way back home, every day.

Mine takes like 45 miniutes even though it's only about 10 miles away. It's all stop-and-go, and it really sucks. I justify it by the fact that they pay for my tuition, which is definitely worth it!

Sh!t, if I had a home office, I don't even know if I'd make it to the boxers.

It's about 45 miles one way to work and takes about an hour. It's two-lane almost all the way and I have to cross three curvy mountain roads loaded with tractor trailers and every kind of large slow-moving vehicle there is. School buses are the most aggravating though. I get behind three different ones each morning and you can't get around them until the driver decides to pull off the road to let the traffic pass. Snowy days are the pits because the mountains are never plowed as early as I have to leave mornings. The price of gas was a real pain this spring. I have to fill the tank every couple of days and it got really expensive. In other words, I hate the drive.

I just got a new job about 12 minutes (4.3 miles) from my house. Traffic sucks pretty big, but at least the duration is short. The longest distance I've ever driven to a job was a little over a hour (43 miles) each way. It was a lot of driving, but I didn't mind it too bad because the roads were interesting and various.

45 miles one way everyday......I've been able to cut the time down to 20 minutes

But its all on fate. I use a back country road that is popular enough to attract cops yet is still a major artery for local truck drivers to use in hauling produce. Somtimes the drive can take up to an hour if the speed gods are not with me. Pretty stressful drive to. Overtaking semis and dodgeing flying tomatoes (from those semi's) is not a great way to start the day.

But on one of the last legs of my journey I can fly down this almost barren road at max speed. Heheh found out my trucks governer kicks in at 105 mph.....anyone know how to disable that?
