If food is left out for more than 2 hours, it is already growing harmful bacteria. Now, you say the pizza was left out for 20 hours. I think you can answer your question now. 😉

Why can't you just microwave it or put it in a stove?

Because bacteria doesnt taste good. The bad odor may not be there, but the awful taste will be. And you will certainly get sick. Oh yes, and not only that, dead bacteria can still release its toxins even after they are killed.

The question is, is it enough to make you sick or kill you?

I think not!

Suit yourself.

3 days covered, 1 day uncovered, in the fridge: Months probably. You could eat older pizza, but since I eat mine cold I'm a bit conservative.

Safer? Bacteria can grow on anything.

yes, but whereas cheese will get moldy, pork sausage will grown other bacteria that are more harmful (i.e. e-coli, etc.). everything grows different stuff, and some stuff is worse ( e-coli, salmonella, etc.)

Pepperoni would be realtively safe as well because of the massive amount of preservatives. In fact many stores sell pepperoni outside of the refrigerated case.

The reason pepperoni can be sold without the refrigerated case is because it either has all the oxygen removed from the bag, or they have an oxygen absorber packet in the bag. Just buy a package of beef jerky. There is a small packet of an oxygen absorber to keep bacteria from growing on the jerky.

in the garbage? that makes a big difference.....

hell, most people's kitchen sink is a bad as the trash. most people would be shocked to know their toilet probably has less bacteria than their kitchen sink.

so whats all that "air" in the package? The packet is a silica gel packet to absorb excess mositure.

No, they dont put a packet of silica gel in a bag of pepperoni or Jerky. They put a small oxygen packet to absorb the oxygen. If you buy a package of jerky, or pepperoni, take out the little oxygen packet. Open it, and the contents look like pepper.

:Q That cant be good. I remember when I was younger, my brother bought some egg rolls. We left them out all night. And in the morning, I ate two of them. I had the shats for 2 days straight.

Pizza is non-biodegradable. Good forever cause it's so volitile bacteria can't grow on it.

I guess my slippers could be considered "food".

Ok I see. Honestly, I never knew they put a packet of silica gel in a package of beef jerky. Thats actually very interesting to know. Thanks for the link! 🙂

I had some pizza that was 2 and a half weeks old last week. It was lounging around my room too! Never fear, a one minute microwave and a thirty-second shake gets ALL those little *things* off.

Oxygen absorber? How does that work?
