I am an original WMC from February of '99 :) I heard about AnandTech from the RivaZone BBS when they were talking about the Buy.Com fiasco.

Hmmmm. . .interesting question

If I remember correctly, I discovered it from Rivazone. I spent so much time @ Rivazone the summer they announced the original TNT. Gosh, that was the summer of '98, right?

I first found Anandtech when trying to find a good review on the Pentium Pro processor. Then I lurked around the forums a couple years before joining..

Almost 2 years now, probably more, but I can't remember the exact date. All I know is I was a regular visitor of Anandtech.com many months before I initially registered at the forums. I stumbled upon the site when looking for a TNT/TNT2[Ultra] review. Presently, I visit the site and read almost every review posted.

I heard that it was a fast paced site and was pretty cool. I had to check it out and here I am today! I use to be hardcore HWC user though.

wow... very very long... early 98. the forum then was basically like a guestbook where about 5 questions at a time were displayed and they scrolled with each post... made it a pain to ask any questions. anand used to post everyday with things like 'good morning, i worked on a paper last night, im off to school now, bye!' you dont see that anymore.

20_MuleTeam_Borax, I remember you from RivaZone, I found that place (when it was R.U.G./ Riva Users Group)when I bought a Diamond Viper V330 4mb for $200.00 when it first came out, spent lotsa time there trying to figure out how to get more than 20 fps out of Q2 :) (just paid $165.00 for a Creative gf2 gts, it does 90+ fps at 10x7 :))

I'm something of a newcomer...Started dating a guy last year (damn it's been a while :)) and whenever I was over, he always had the forums up, so being the geeky couple that we are, I started reading/commenting occasionally and eventually just joined on my own.

We're still together:)

A little over 2 years. I was looking for some info on a socket 7 motherboard, and I somehow managed to find Anandtech and saw that he had quite a few mobo reviews. I thought his reviews were excellent and I have been coming back ever since.

I found out about Anandtech in September 1999 from a friend. I was looking to put together a new machine (my first new one in ~10 yrs) and had no idea about new technologies. My friend suggested this place to get my bearings. I didn't find the forums until May 2000, registered in August, and now I check here every evening.

I found out about Anand by reading an article at the LA Times where the reporter knocked on Anand's door and asked Anand if he could talk with his father. When Mr. Shimpi came to the door the reporter started asking about the website and other stuff, that's when they realized that the reporter was there for Anand and not his dad.

This was sometime in 1997 and I think Anand was 15, maybe even 14. Geez wiz :)

But don't you guys think this has nothing to do with Operating Systems?

First visit was June of 1997 on a "virtual tour" from a ZDNet chat room.

The site was much different then. Still good though (Obviously eh, I'm still here) :).

I got to know the forums before Anandtech itself, back in late 1997, heard about it from my friend Adrian Wong.

Who exactly is "anand"? I know this is an idiotic questoin but is there a profile of him somewhere? Obviously he is the owner of this site? I want to know more about the background of this site and all of its beauty :p

Dunno, but I was lurking when he had descriptions of his life and girlfriend and such. When was that? Quite a while ago.

And yes, this is off topic. :p

Found it thru a comment in the now defunct forum Looksmart.
It was in July 2000.
I knew very little (and still do) about computers and was looking for latest definitions and explanations for overclocking and building pc's. You have guided me thru my first PC build, selecting the hardware and software.

ABit SE6,815e
P3-733, 256Mb CAS2-232, 441
Sony 145e CDRW, Maxtor 30GB, 7200, ATA66
W98,W2k,W2k2 as backup

This forum has been great for that purpose. Funny, wise, and patient folks that don't mind sharing their experiences and knowledge.

Thanks.

Since July, 1998. I was on Tom's page and found a link to Anand's site. Used an article from the site to guide me in building my first computer. I didn't join the forum for two more years though. Damn thing is addictive. ;)

I think I first started coming to Anandtech site in early to mid 97. It has gone through a few changes. I've even signed up for the forums twice(I think forums were redone in 98 or so, memory bad) I just know that I used Anand's review of the Abit TX5N to build my first overclocking system. It has been my homepage ever since. I think I found it on some search engine.
