look at latex, and firmer than you might like. We went that route and put a memory foam topper on it. It seems bulletproof, and the topper was $170.
It is showing no signs of wear in 3 years now.
It is an evil bed. It conspires to make you late for work, etc 😛
 
mine is 4-5 years old.
It has a slight concavity in the middle though, I guess the quality wasn't up to snuff. It wasn't a cheap one either.

The previous one was harder and it was like 10 years old or something.
 
About a week. Picked up a Serta icomfort from Sleepys. I love the foam and would never go back to an interspring.
 
Well, the wife would not wait any longer. Yesterday we went out with plans to go to several retailers that sold the mattress we were looking at and wound up using Mattress Firm's we will beat anyone by 10% if they beat us on a product. Haverty's beat them by a healthy amount so we got that savings and 10%.

Strange, that the top of the line Sterns & Foster bed cost the same today as the mid-range we bough 12-13 years ago. But I ain't gonna complain as I thought I was going to spend $4K and only spent half that.

I joked that maybe we should buy two so I can avoid the Klingon battle for real estate.
 
Well ... if it is too nice of a bed the guest won't leave, and if it is too bad they'll leave too soon. Now, if the guest if your wife's girlfriend that you've been coveting ...
 
Just got my mattress in. My god it feels so much more comfortable. I don't have my bed yet so it's on the floor but I had such a great night's sleep and my back feels great.

I was a bit worried that the Lux Firm was going to be too soft but after laying in it most of Sunday it's perfect.

Any recommendations here?

Also, anyone else with recommendations on a durable mattress? We bought a Lucid Linenspa Cal King about 3 years ago, and it sucks now. Pockets and very poor back support, so we both wake up with back pain fairly frequently when sleeping on it.

Thought about going back to spring with a Sealy PosturePedic for $1050 (mattress and box), but I keep reading that longevity isn't good on spring mattresses. I am about to the point where I buy a new plain firm mattress and throw a memory foam pad on top for comfort and replace as needed.

Anyone in here have suggestions on a durable firm mattress than can go more than 6 years? I am a fairly big guy, but by no means ginormous.
 
About 10 years now, but the wife bought a good one and had it shipped in then, it's still very nice.

I do not even think they sell the mattress sets anymore, they were featuring them on the cruise lines at the time, and she loved them so much she ordered a queen at the time.

It still sleeps about like brand new, though, the damned thing is bullet proof.

Had a new bed delivered Tuesday. Split king, Beautyrest on an adjustable frame. I got the firm, my wife got the next softest. I am sleeping with a folded up blanket under the bottom sheet till the mattress breaks in. Felt great in the store, a little to firm out of the box.
 
i got a cheap $250 memory foam mattress a year ago

it sucks

the thing is useless, and I will be tossing it out when I move, or cutting it up into pieces and use for cheap accoustic foam?
 
Bout 2 years. The other one I had was about 10-11 years old and was pretty bad shape but it was a cheap one to begin with.

There is definitely a difference between inexpensive blue light specials, and Tempurpedic-level memory foam mattresses. We bought a dozen $149 foam mattresses from Costco for use at our lake house. They filled up the overflow bunk room quite well, and are fine for a few nights of sleep. I wouldn't use one of them as a primary mattress. No way.

Our Tempurpedic Grand, however, is at an entirely different level. It's the most comfortable bed that we've ever had.
 
Yeah, I learned about lb/density later.

The 3lb/density is no good for my bad back. THat's what the cheap ones use.

Need 4lb/density next time, or 5lb/density if i can find it for a good price
