How long has your Zen/iPod/iRiver or other lasted?

I have a 20GB Zen brick for two years. Runs fine. The thing is unfortunately big and the screen is small. The sound from the Creatives is what sells it however. I'll run it into the ground before buying an Iriver or something that carries a radio or Sirius.

What do people with ipods do about the the ear buds? I find the apple ear buds to be incredibly uncomfortable. But when I am out and about, I don't exactly want dj style headphones, either. I'd like a better designed ear bud headphone, if possible.

They buy real earbuds *cough* Shure E2C *cough*.

And to answer the OP's question, not very long, or at least not my first two. Got my U2 iPod December 30th of last year, lasted till March, the hold switch started to act stupid so I sent it to Apple. I got the iPod back UNREPAIRED, and it looked like a chicken had just scratched it up, so I took it to the Apple store for a new one. That one lasted EXACTLY 2 months, from March 21st to May 21st, I dropped it while washing the car and the headphone jack broke on the inside. Surprisingly, they replaced it at the Apple store, and my third one has been just dandy ever since.

Cliff Notes: Apple needs to work a bit on Q/C, iPods sent in for repair shouldn't come back WORSE than they were when sent in.

Had a Dell DJ 15GB for a year. Worked great. I decided I would rather have an iPod so I sold the DJ to start the iPod fund, but the DJ alway worked great for me.

I listen to it in the car every day on the way to and from work and I listen at my desk at work. Ocasionally when I get on the treadmill, I listen to it on there, but that's really pretty rare.

Any particular reason for getting the ipod over the dell juke box? Especially if you already own the dell one, there are no features the iPod has that the dell doesn't so I don't see the motivation.

Looks, maybe battery life, interface, and most likely, the nerd urge to buy a new gadget even when you don't need one.
