How long has your computer been turned on right now?

it's summer time, so I've been turning it off every time I leave for an extneded period of time (more than 3 hours). my computer room gets hella hot in the summer... there's no AC in here and I can't leave the windows open when I leave the apartment.

there's no rain gutters in this building, so every time it rains, my apartment gets flooded if I leave the windows open.

I turn my comp off during thunderstorms so probably around 24 hours.

How did you ever know it had been on for 197 hours?? Is there a timer?

I just turned mine on a few hours ago; it had been sitting on the kitchen table prior to that for about a day since finishing up my last EGR424 project...

You can get a quick estimate in the task manager, reading off how much cpu time the system idle process has used.

16 days, 11 hours, 27 minutes ago, there was a power outage. Before that, it dates to approximately March 15 - because I moved.

You know...restarting the computer is actually good for it sometimes. I like setting records as much as anyone else but wow. No power outages or movement of the computer or anything?

Exactly. I like my hdds to cool down, and I wouldn't want my fans running 24/7.

When I leave it on for 30 days streight, my electric bill goes up $20-30; so unless I am downloading or scanning my hard drives, I will turn it off if it is not going to be used with in the next hour or so. It has now been on for 3:34 minutes according to the LAN Status window. I will be shutting it down very soon.

Doesn't he ever upgrade windows, drivers, or other software that needs rebooting? I bet his PC is a security nightmare! I also estamate his cost of electricy for those 466 days to be around $400-500, if he turned it off he could save $300-ish. Of course that all depends on where he lives and what his source for electricty is. Coal and Hydro are the cheapest while Nuclear, Natural Gas, and Oil are the more expensive sources. Wind and Solar are not abundant enough to consider them major power sources.
