It's a social thing. Smoking would make it easier to make friends, since there are other smokers and you share an interest.
 
6 years.

After kicking heroin, crack, pot, alcohol and everything else 6 months earlier, quitting cigarettes was an afterthought.

Good for you, I wish I had done the same, but even so, I am glad I quit when I did. (I smoked for about 20 yrs 🙁)
